Takeaways from Last F1 Race
Red Bull is coming off a disappointing race where reliability took out Verstappen and damage prevented Perez from being a contender.
Without the Red Bull cars in the mix, Ferrari completed the 1-2 finish with McLaren behind them. Mercedes must be livid as both cars did not finish, and there won’t be many chances to have races without Red Bull near the top so an opportunity missed for the Silver Arrows.
Nice runs by Yuki Tsunoda and the Haas cars were pleasant surprises, but unless more big favorites go out this week, those cars should be outside the Top 10 again.
Japanese Grand Prix Track: Suzuka Circuit
It’s a huge track at high speeds with some amazing “S-curves”, and drivers love this track as it’s high speed for most of the track and only one DRS zone, and last year Max was dominant with a 20-second win.
The track lends itself to lots of good side-by-side racing down the stretches and through the curves so expect another fun race for viewers and spectators. The track can wear on tyres more the usual so Pirelli will be bringing the big boys of the tyres.
Japanese Grand Prix Predictions
Will Red Bull have reliability issues again? Probably not. Max was phenomenal off the start in the last race, but the brake issue took him out, but just watching him for the first couple of laps, we could see another dominant performance coming so I would expect Verstappen to come out strong and get back to the winning ways.
Ferrari is -275 for a double top six finish, and even though rain is predicted for practice 3 and qualifying, I would still predict them to finish near the front.
The combination of the cars, drivers and strategy has worked well so far and there hasn’t been any signs of reliability issues so even if there is a slip up in qualifying, I see them moving up to the front, and if they qualify well they should stay up there.
Japanese Grand Prix Podium Finish
Charles Leclerc (-105) is a solid look as I just can’t take Sergio Perez seriously as a contender in all the races as his contract is up at the end of this year, and he just seems to make mistakes at the
worst times.
Last week, Verstappen goes out of the race and he couldn’t compete for the win because of damage to his floor that it appears the team just didn’t tell him about through the race.
That tells me everything I need to know about where he stands on that team so I don’t trust him. After him and Verstappen, it’s Sainz and Leclerc to fight for the podium and at -105 it’s a great price on Leclerc who has finished podium in the last two races.
