2024 Travelers Championship Course: TPC River Highlands – Golf Picks

This course is very different and easier than last weeks beast at Pinehurst. River Highlands is a Par 70 that plays at just under 6900 yards, and there isn’t a lot of difficulty to it.

The rough is average, the greens are flat compared to most PGA courses, and the weather looks to be pretty calm this week so expect a winning score from -16 to -20.

There are some bunkers along the fairways that will be in play, but really there’s not much to this course. Ultimately, it will come down to who has the hottest putter because everyone will be able to hit fairways and greens so I’ll be looking to guys who have been putting good recently.

2024 Travelers Championship Favorite Holes

Hole 10: Par 4 462 yards

I love this hole because there’s a random tree in the fairway. Drives will have to hit the right side of the fairway, or players will just have to hit a low tee shot. The green isn’t complicated, but missing it left is no good as there is rough and a big bunker protecting it.

Hole 13: Par 5 530 yards

This is an eagle/birdie opportunity as most everyone in the field can reach the green in two. There is water near the green so it’s not a guarantee that the second shot will give you a makable eagle putt. The fairway is a bit narrow with water on the right and bunkers on the left so there is trouble if players aren’t accurate off the tee.

Hole 17: Par 4 296 yards

This is a great hole as it’s drivable, but once up on the green it gets difficult. The green has several tiers so shots that end up on a tier different than the pin will have a difficult putt. There’s water to the left, and lots of rolloff on the green so even though it’s a short hole, it’s not a guarantee birdie, although that’s what should be expected.

2024 Travelers Championship: Players That Can Trip You Up

Tony Finau

He’s finished 8th and 3rd the last two weeks, but before that he had one Top 10 finish in 11 tournaments. He’s 14th the last six months in total strokes gained, and he doesn’t play well here as he has no finishes better than 13th in eight tournaments. He’s played great the last two weeks, but he has to finish Top 10 again to return value, and I would be nervous.

Patrick Cantlay

I think he’s overvalued this week coming off of the 3rd place finish at The US Open, but he’s only had two other great finishes this season, 4th at The Genesis, and 3rd at The RBC Heritage.

The next tourney’s after those he finished 36th and 29th so he’s struggled with consistency. He’s 13th in the field in total strokes gained, but he’s priced as a Top 6 guy, and he’s only finished Top 10 one time in the last si years.

Collin Morikawa

Morikawa has been playing really good recently, but he’s missed the cut at this tournament the last two times he’s played here including last year.

Maybe his new found putting success will help him on this course, but as a Top 5 priced guy I won’t be betting on him when he’s shown no success on this course.

2024 Travelers Championship: DraftKings Darlings

Adam Svensson $6400

He’s made the cut in 10 straight tournaments after struggling to start the year. His finishes aren’t amazing, but at only $6400 this is a nice play on a guy who’s been very consistent and dependable.

Taylor Pendrith $7200

Pendrith has made the cut in 6 out of the last 7 tournaments, and in the last 3 months he’s +0.81 strokes gained putting. This tournament is going to come down to putting so anyone who has been hot with the putter could have a nice finish here.

Denny McCarthy $7500

McCarthy’s putter is red hot as he’s #1 in the field putting, and he finished 7th here last year. He’s been good this season and he has a couple of Top 10 finishes so he has upside. This is a great price for him again.
