Butterfield Bermuda Championship Betting Preview
Only two events remain for the extended 2022-23 season and with the field mostly made up of those trying to jockey themselves into the Top-125 to keep their card for next year, this is obviously they weakest field of the fall thus far.
This will be the fifth edition of the Bermuda Championship, which have all been contested at Port Royal Golf Club. If there was ever a week to take some chances on longshots, this is it.
Seamus Power won last year as one of the favorites, but prior to that, the first three winners of this event including Brendon Todd at 80-1, Brian Gay at 200-1 and Lucas Herbert two years ago at 60-1.
The par-71 is short by Tour standards, at just over 6,800, which is actually the second-shortest course on Tour behind only Pebble Beach, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy and it seems very unlikely we will see scores nearly as low as last week.

The course is on an island, so the biggest defense is generally from the wind. This week, winds are forecasted to start light and ramp up as the week goes on with Sunday being upwards of 20 mph. Still, to begin Thursday with only 5-10 mph winds is certainly light by Bermuda standards.
The field is weak to say the least and playing names like Brendon Todd below 20-to-1 seems like a fool’s decision. Then again, he has clearly been playing better than most people in this field.
Shotlink is not available on the island, so we don’t have past Strokes Gained data to profile what has worked in the past, but aside from Seamus Power last year, it’s safe to say distance has proven to be a necessary commodity as Todd and Gay are two of the shortest hitters on Tour.
On the flip side, Herbert and Power can both poke it, so perhaps guessing the skillset needed here is a bit of a crapshoot.
This may be the one tournament to throw ball-striking out the window and look for guys that can roll the rock and get hot with the putter this week.
Butterfield Bermuda Championship Outright Winner: Doug Ghim +3300 (Bet365)
From Nick Borrman:
Wow, this field drops off quickly and there are some unattractive numbers on the board. However, this one seems to provide some value.
Ghim certainly isn’t the most consistent player on Tour with two missed cuts in his last three starts, but going back a little further, he also has five Top-20 finishes in his last 12 starts including last week in Mexico.
Those results are mainly in field strengths’ similar to this week which gives some value to his price north of 30-1 while most settle in the low 20s.
His consistency here is eerily similar with two missed cuts in three starts while also posting a T14.
Ghim seems to produce results when he is hitting his irons well and considering he ranks #10 in this field in SG Approach over the last six months, he is as good a bet as anyone to have himself in contention on Sunday.
Butterfield Bermuda Championship Finish Position: Kelly Kraft Top-10 +1000 | Top-20 +400 (Bet365)
Kraft is not a name I have been in a long time, but I like his price this week combined with the fact he is showing signs of life. While he finished T71 last week in Mexico, he had finished inside the Top-25 in all three other starts this fall as he has been hitting his irons great and making putts.
Kraft is not long by Tour standards but is very accurate which should help put him in position to attack plenty of holes this week.
I think Kraft is a ways off from actually contending to win, but I do believe he can provide good value this week to at least play well and cash a finish position ticket.
See you next week for the RSM Classic!
