RBC Heritage Betting Preview

No rest for the weary as the Tour moves on from the first major to the 5th Signature Event of the season which means we have another strong field this week.

Of eligible participants, all of the OWGR Top-30 except for Viktor Hovland and Hideki Matsuyama will be teeing it up this week.

The event features just 69 players and no cut. Because of the limited field, there is another event this week as well, the Corales Puntacana Championship to help fill your golf betting dreams!

54 of the 69 in the field played in the Masters Tournament last week which is important as each of the last three winners did tee it up at Augusta the week prior.

Those would be Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth and Stewart Cink with the first two being the only past winners of the event in this year’s field, so we are likely looking at a first-time winner here.

Harbour Town is a Pete Dye design with course management the most important strategy this week.

Unlike last week at Augusta National, the course is tight with overhanging trees lining the fairways and features some of the smallest greens on Tour, averaging around 3,700 square feet.

With that, along with several doglegs going both directions, placement in the fairway is crucial to be able to attack these greens so expect players to keep the driver in the bag often.

The course measures just over 7,200 yards and plays to a par-71. There is also water in play on basically every hole, while sitting on the Atlantic Ocean is always ripe for wind to cause havoc.

The good news this week is that the wind does not appear likely to play a major factor with average winds of 10-15 mph in the forecast all four days. Temperatures will hover around 80 degrees all week while there is currently a only a slight chance of rain or a thunderstorm on the weekend.

RBC Heritage Outright Winner: Shane Lowry +4500 (FanDuel)

From Nick Borrman:

If there was ever a week to safely be able to stay away from Scottie Scheffler, this has to be it, right? For the sake of all golf bettors out there, let’s hope so.

Cantlay has some ridiculous course history here, so he’s bound to get a lot of attention this week, but I certainly don’t like his current form with just one Top-10 this season. Instead, Shane Lowry looks like a solid play.

Lowry has good course history here with three Top-10s in six starts including nearly winning two years ago with a lead on the back nine on Sunday before hitting his greenside bunker shot into the water.

He is coming off a T43 last week at the Masters, but prior to that was red-hot during the Florida Swing with a T4 at the Cognizant, solo 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a T19 at THE PLAYERS.

Harbour Town is all about your second shot and Lowry has been great on approach, ranking 6th in this field in SG Approach over the last six months and 3rd over the last three months.

Additionally, with Harbour Town’s small greens, no matter how good on approach you are, greens will be missed, and Lowry has a very creative short game, just another reason he has found success here.

RBC Heritage Top-20 Finish: J.T. Poston +180 (DraftKings or FanDuel)

Admittedly, the Postman has cooled off over the last six weeks, he just doesn’t like to play in Florida, but the long-term form is there, and Harbour Town is a perfect spot for Poston to feel comfortable and find his groove. Though he does have two missed cuts here in five starts, his other three finishes were all Top-8s. Definition of feast or famine.

But back to Poston’s long-term form, he was red hot dating back to last summer at the John Deere Classic which started a run of 12 Top-25 finishes in 15 starts including a ridiculous eight Top-10s. It just felt like a win was coming.

Poston is not a long hitter so this is one of those tracks where he can contend. He is also an incredible putter ranking Top-5 in the field in SG Putting over the last 12 months.

Poston finished T-30 last week at Augusta and considering where so many big names finished, that wasn’t a poor result. I like him to splash on the first or second page of the leaderboard by Sunday at a place where he loves the greens, gaining strokes in all five starts, and a place he has had great results.

See you next week for the Zurich Classic!
