Who is First Mission?

First Mission was born on February 19, 2020 in Kentucky and was bred by Godolphin. He is sired by Street Sense, the 2007 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner and a leading sire of multiple Grade 1 winners. His dam is Elude, a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, a multiple Grade 1 winner and a sire of champions such as Rachel Alexandra, Songbird, and Mage. Elude is also a half-sister to Marcha Toss, a stakes-placed mare who produced Grade 2 winner and sire Mr Speaker.

First Mission is trained by Chad Brown, who has won more than 1,800 races in his career and is one of the most successful trainers in North America. He has also trained two Preakness Stakes winners: Cloud Computing in 2017 and Mage in 2022. First Mission’s regular jockey is Luis Saez, who has won more than 3,000 races and has ridden one Preakness Stakes winner: Mage in 2022.

What is First Mission’s Racing Profile and History?

First Mission has raced three times from 2023 to 2023, with two wins and one second. He has earned $276,500 in his career so far. He started his career on dirt but switched to turf after his first race. He broke his maiden on his second start at Fair Grounds over 1 1/16 miles on dirt. He then stepped up to graded stakes company and won the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland over 1 1/16 miles on dirt.

He defeated Arabian Lion by a half-length and Disarm by another length and three-quarters. He posted a career-best speed figure of 106 and covered the distance in 1:43.74. The Lexington Stakes is a local prep race for the Preakness Stakes and has produced four Preakness Stakes winners: Risen Star in 1988, Charismatic in 1999, Afleet Alex in 2005, and Swiss Skydiver in 2020.

What are First Mission’s Strengths and Weaknesses?

First Mission is a talented horse who has been improving with each race. He has shown speed and stamina in his races and can run well from off the pace or near the lead. He has also shown versatility and adaptability in his races and can run well on different surfaces and distances. He has also shown a strong finishing kick and can close well from behind or hold off challengers.

However, First Mission also has some weaknesses that could affect his chances of winning the Preakness Stakes. He has not faced or beaten any of the top contenders for the race, such as Forte, Arabian Knight, Confidence Game, or Blazing Sevens. He has also not raced outside of Louisiana or Kentucky since February this year and may need to adjust to a new track and environment. He may also face a faster pace and more pressure than he did in his last race.
