What is National Treasure’s racing profile and history?
National Treasure began his racing career as a two-year-old on September 3, 2022 at Del Mar, where he won a maiden special weight race over six and a half furlongs by one and a quarter lengths. He showed good speed and stamina, breaking well from the gate and leading all the way to the wire.
His next start was on October 8, 2022 in the Grade I American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita Park, where he faced six rivals over one and one-sixteenth miles. He broke sharply from the gate and pressed the pace set by Cave Rock. He took over the lead briefly in the stretch but could not hold off Cave Rock’s late surge, finishing second by half a length.
Four weeks later, National Treasure entered the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland Race Course, where he met nine other horses over one and one-sixteenth miles. He broke well from the gate and settled behind the leaders. He made a move on the turn but could not catch up with Cave Rock and Forte, who battled for the lead. He finished third by two lengths behind Forte, who was later named the 2022 U.S. Champion Two-Year-Old.
