The New York Yankees have won the MVP awards in MLB history with 23, while the St Louis Cardinals are second while leading the National League with 21. Three organizations have never produced an MVP winner: the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Ray, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Barry Bonds holds the record for most all-time MVP awards with 7, and Miguel Cabrera was the last to win back-to-back MVPs in 2012-13. A player from the LA Angels has won 5 of the last 10 AL MVPs (Mike Trout 3/Shohei Ohtani 2).

2024 AL MVP Predictions
To the delight of potential American League MVP candidates, Shohei Ohtani has moved to the National League after signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His prowess as one of the best pitchers and hitters in the sport makes him a perennial candidate for the MVP award, and now that heโs gone, the field is wide open.
The top two favorites both play for the New York Yankees, with Aaron Judge sitting at +550 and the newly acquired Juan Soto at +600. Soto should put up similar numbers to Judge, and MVP voters love supporting a first-timer. The health of Judge will prove to be critical in him winning his 2nd MVP after a prolonged absence cost him in 2023 but he does have the advantage of playing center field. There is also the issue of two top candidates canceling each other out due to playing on the same club.
Yordan Alvarez is next in line at +800 odds, and we really like his chances if he can stay healthy. Prior to landing on the IL with an oblique strain, Alvarez had a .277/.388/.589 slash line with 17 home runs and 55 RBI through his first 57 games. When he returned, Alvarez posted a .308/.425/.577 slash line with 14 home runs and 42 RBI in his final 57 games. If Alvarez can play 140-150 games, his numbers will certainly be MVP-worthy.
A potential dark horse worth a look is Bobby Witt Jr. at +2000. Witt Jr. was unstoppable down the stretch and wound up hitting .276 with 30 home runs, 96 RBI, and 49 stolen bases. The Royals locked him up with an 11-year deal worth 288.7 million dollars. Obviously, it’s a long shot that Kansas City makes it into the postseason, but in a weak AL Central he could be worth a sprinkle.
Witt has the ability to hit for average and power, steal bases, and play a premium position. In just his third season as a big leaguer, itโs safe to assume that Witt will only improve. His unique skillset, along with his immense talent, makes him worth a look.
AL MVP Prediction: Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros +800
AL MVP Dark Horse Candidate: Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals +2000
