The New York Yankees have won the MVP awards in MLB history with 23, while the St Louis Cardinals are second while leading the National League with 21. Three organizations have never produced an MVP winner: the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Ray, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Barry Bonds holds the record for most all-time MVP awards with 7, and Miguel Cabrera was the last to win back-to-back MVPs in 2012-13. A player from the LA Angels has won 5 of the last 10 AL MVPs (Mike Trout 3/Shohei Ohtani 2).

2024 NL MVP Predictions
Three teams (Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves & San Diego Padres) represent seven of the top-10 favorites to win the NL MVP, so we could see some players getting canceled out by a teammate. Shohei Ohtani (3rd +650) will be a popular pick for the award, and rightfully so, but we need to keep in mind that he won’t be pitching, and being the designated hitter won’t help his case as others thrive in the field.
The favorite is reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr (+550), who will surely post MVP-worthy numbers if he stays healthy. However, no player has won back-to-back MVPs since Miguel Cabrera back in 2012-13, and seems unlikely it would happen in this scenario based on the crowded talent pool.
Next in line is Mookie Betts (+650), who slashed .307/.408/.579 with 39 home runs, 96 RBI, 126 runs, and 14 stolen bases. Betts will not only post MVP-caliber numbers at the plate, but he has the advantage of playing this season at shortstop, a premium position, which factors into winning the award.
A long shot worth a look is Matt Olson at +1400 odds. Olson led the NL in home runs (54) and RBI (139) by a wide margin while being one of the few players to play in all 162 games. If Acuna were to get injured again, it would open the door for Olson to lead the Braves to a lengthy postseason run.
The Braves are also expected to be one of the best teams in the National League, and if they have the success many pundits envision, odds are Olson will be in the mix. Ronald Acuna, last year’s MVP, and his teammate, dealt with an injury to his knee this spring, so he is a candidate to miss some time or even have his production limited.
NL MVP Prediction: Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers +650
NL MVP Dark Horse Candidate: Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves +1400
