AL Cy Young Award 2025 Prediction: Garrett Crochet (+400)
Tarik Skubal is the favorite to repeat as the American League Cy Young Award winner (+400), but Garrett Crochet is next in line after being set free from the lowly Chicago White Sox.
The 25-year-old enters his debut season as a member of the Boston Red Sox with sky-high aspirations after posting a 3.58 ERA with 209 strikeouts across only 146 innings pitched in his first full season as a starting pitcher.
Crochet’s record suffered (6-12) due to playing on a 41-win (dead last) Pale Hose team and his innings were limited after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Now he’s playing on a revamped Red Sox squad that is projected to win close 90 games while potentially competing for a playoff spot.
Crochet has one of the nastiest four-seam fastballs in the MLB, a pitch opponents batted only .198 against with a .295 slugging percentage.
He threw the pitch 1,287 times (1,095 to right-handed hitters) and he allowed 16 extra-base hits, 11 of which were doubles.
Everything sets up perfectly for Crochet to compete for his first Cy Young Award now that he’s playing on a contender a year removed from surgery.
AL Cy Young Award 2025 Long Shot Prediction: Seth Lugo (+4500)
Seth Lugo pitched primarily out of the bullpen for the majority of his Big-League career, but he found some success as a starter in 2023 with San Diego and then he broke out with a huge season for the Kansas City Royals in 2024.
Lugo finished second in the American League Cy Young voting after making his first All-Star team with a 16-9 record, 3.00 ERA and 181 strikeouts across 206+ innings pitched.
He utilized a ridiculous nine-pitch mix while increasing his whiff rate from 26.8% to 33.9% from 2023 to 2024.
Lugo is projected to be the #2 starter in Kansas City behind Cole Ragans (+900) and he has the advantage of playing his homes games in the pitcher’s park that is Kauffman Stadium which make him an interesting target at 45 to 1 odds.
