NL Manager of the Year Prediction: Terry Francona Cincinnati Reds (+400)

Like we mentioned in our AL Manager of the Year article, you need to find a manager that exceeds expectations in order to predict who will win the award.

Based on that. I don’t see a world where Dave Roberts can win the award with a loaded Dodgers team and the same could be said for Rob Thomson (Philadelphia) and to a lesser degree the odds-on favorite to win the Central in Craig Counsell.

Terry Francona has nearly 2,000 career wins and he’s already on the award three times (2013, 2016 & 2022) so he’ll be looking join Tony La Russa, Bobby Cox and Buck Showalter as they only mangers to win four.

Francona led the Boston Red Sox to their first championship in 86 years in his first year with the team and added another title three years later.

Cleveland was coming off a 94-loss season in his debut and Francona brought them to the first of six postseason appearances in 11 years with the organization.

This will be his first season with a Cincinnati Reds team that has failed to win 83 games in over a decade including a 77-85 record last season.

The Reds have an MVP-caliber player in Elly De La Cruz, they have a core of young players who should all improve, and their second-best hitter Matt McLain will return after missing the entire 2024 campaign with a shoulder injury.

They also improved a rotation led by Hunter Greene with the additions of Brady Singer (Kansas City) and top prospect Rhett Lowder will also be in the mix.

Cincinnati is projected to finish 3rd in the NL Central but if Francona can pull off another first season turnaround and challenge Chicago and/or Milwaukee for a playoff spot, that will be more than enough to make his case for the award.

NL Manager of the Year Long Shot Prediction: Brian Snitker Atlanta Braves (+1500)

Brian Snitker has finished top four in the Manager of the Year six different times while winning the award once in 2018.

However, you could make the argument that last season was his best as everything went wrong for the Atlanta Braves including injuries and underperforming players and they still won 89 games.

Atlanta will be without Ronald Acuna Jr, Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy but they will all return and once they do this team will be loaded.

With Strider, Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez and Spencer Schwellenbach Atlanta will have one of the best rotations in the majors and the signing of Jurickson Profar addressed a weakness in the lineup.

The Braves are capable of winning 100 games and that would be an 11-game improvement on last season.

Based on all the hype surrounding the Phillies and Mets, the Braves could almost feel like they are sneaking up on people which is essential in winning this award.
