Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis
The Baltimore Orioles look to complete a three game sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays from beautiful Camden Yards on Wednesday evening.
The Blue Jays will be hoping to salvage a game after losing 6-5 yesterday and 7-4 on Monday. The Orioles have a make-up game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, while the Jays have a scheduled off day.
Toronto turns to the veteran righty Jose Berrios, while Baltimore starts a righty of their own with Dean Kremer. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:10 PST.
Orioles Bring Brooms to Camden Yards
The Baltimore Orioles don’t seem to be going anywhere despite being sellers at the trade deadline. They are looking for a three game sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays after prevailing 6-5 in a game that dealt with rain delays last night.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 4 with two doubles & an RBI and Rougned Odor hit his 11th homerun. Kyle Bradish tossed 5.1 innings of three run baseball and the bullpen covered the final 3+ innings while allowing two runs.
The O’s have been clicking offensively despite trading slugger Trey Mancini. However it remains to be seen if that can continue as they rank 19th in both runs scored and OPS on the season.
At 58-52, Baltimore currently sits only a half game behind both the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays for the 2nd and 3rd Wild Card spots respectively. The 26 year-old righty Dean Kremer will toe the rubber for the Orioles.
He is 4-3 with a 3.43 ERA and 43 strikeouts across 57.2 innings of work. It is quite alarming that Kremer has a bloated xERA of 5.03. Kremer was sharp in his last outing, hurling 6.1 scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and zero walks against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
However he will need to bring his A-game as the Jays lineup is on a completely different level.
Jays Still Control The Wild Card
The Toronto Blue Jays will look to salvage the third and final game of this series after losing 6-5 last night. Bo Bichette was the easy choice for offensive standout as he had the teams only extra-base hits with two home runs and four RBI.
Alex Manoah only lasted five innings, while allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk. The Jays record fell to 60-50 which still gives them the #1 Wild Card spot in the American League.
Toronto has a scheduled off day tomorrow followed by a critical weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians who sit only 2.5 games behind them. This Blue Jay offense is one of the best in the business as they rank top ten across every offensive category imaginable.
Jose Berrios will be called upon to play the role of stopper and snag a victory in the final game of this series. Berrios is 8-4 on the season with a 5.19 ERA and 107 strikeouts across 118 innings of work.
He has some concerning underlying metrics with an expected slugging percentage of .500 and xERA of 5.48. Berrios was hammered by the Minnesota Twins in his last outing with five runs allowed across only 3.2 innings, including two home runs. He has now allowed a long ball in six straight outings.
Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays enter this contest as a -155 money line favorite, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +135 with a total set at 9. It looks like we will be going for a sweep of our own after cashing the over in the first two articles of this series.
These teams have played six head-to-head games and combined for 11 twice, 12 twice and 13 twice. Six of the last seven Orioles games have cleared the total.
The Blue Jays have seen 15 of their last 21 road games against an opponent with a winning record go over the number. Neither starting pitcher inspires much confidence against the opposing lineup.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr is 2-6 with two home runs against Kremer and Lourdes Gurriel Jr is 2 -3 with two home runs. Berrios also has struggles with the O’s, including Cedric Mullins going 4-13 with two doubles, Ryan Mountcastle 2-8 with two home runs and Adley Rutschman 2-3 with a homerun and double.
With eleven runs being scored in back-to-back games both bullpen have seen extensive work. Once again, everything points to the over.
Prediction: Over 9 Runs Scored +100
