NRFI Best Bet Today #1: New York Yankees vs Chicago Cubs (-150)

We have midday action for our first NRFI bet of today with the Yankees playing at Wrigley Field taking on the Cubs. New York sends upstart Luis Gil to the mound not allowing a first inning run in 20 of 24 starts on the season.

He has struggled somewhat recently but overall on the season has preferred playing during the day sporting a 2.43 ERA compared to night games with an ERA of 3.86. It’s also worth noting that the Cubs sit bottom ten in first inning scoring on the season.

On the flip side the Yankees are actually the best first inning scoring team on the season but have actually been held scoreless in the first inning across their last eight games.

The Cubs send lefty Jordan Wicks to the mound and while we don’t have too much data to go off of from him we have enough to say he’ll hold the Yankees scoreless in the first inning.

He’s held opponents scoreless in six of seven starts this season and sports a 2.92 home ERA and 3.13 day time ERA compared to a 4.35 ERA on the road and 5.40 ERA in night games. Play on a Yankees vs Cubs NRFI to occur at -150 odds before first pitch at 2:20pm ET.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2: Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins (-130)

The Marlins sit 32 games under .500 as this season can’t end soon enough for them. To make matters worse, they’ll see ace Zack Wheeler of the Phillies tonight who hasn’t allowed a first inning run in 23 of 27 starts including four straight.

He’s been lights out as of late sporting a 1.62 ERA in six August starts which included two against the Braves and one each against the Astros and Mariners.

He shouldn’t have a problem holding a Marlins team scoreless in the first inning with Miami not scoring in the first in ten straight games!

Edward Cabrera starts for Miami not allowing a first inning run in 14 of 16 starts on the season and sports a 4.17 ERA compared to his 6.69 road ERA this season. If you look at his last six starts though that ERA sits at just 3.58.

Philadelphia has been one of the best first inning scoring teams this season, but we think Cabrera has enough experience against them and recent success to escape the first inning without trouble. Play on a Phillies vs Marlins NRFI at -130 with first pitch at 7:10pm ET.
