Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers Analysis
The Boston Red Sox will be bringing their brooms to Fenway Park as they look for a three game sweep of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers will be hoping to salvage a game before leaving town after losing 5-4 on Tuesday night.
The young lefty Tarik Skubal will start for Detroit, while the veteran righty Michael Wacha toes the rubber for Boston. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST/4:10 PST.
Tamed Tigers
The Detroit Tigers have now lost eight of their last ten games including losing 5-4 to the Boston Red Sox last night. Young starter Beau Brieske allowed four runs on six hits in five innings.
Javy Baez may finally be starting to come around as he went 3 for 5 with a homerun and a triple. Baez turning the corner for an offensive attack that ranks dead last in runs scored and second to last in OPS and batting average.
Detroit has the leagues worst road record at a pathetic 8-20. The Tigers will turn to the southpaw Tarik Skubal in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
On the season, he is 5-4 with a 3.13 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. However, he hasn’t been as sharp recently as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits in only five innings against the Texas Rangers.
Boston Brings The Brooms
The Boston Red Sox continue to roll as baseballs hottest team since May 10th with a 28-12 record. They are even better over the last month with a 14-4 record in June after last night’s 5-4 victory.
Trevor Story delivered the fatal blow with a three-run blast in the 4th inning. The crafty veteran Rich Hill kept his team in striking distance with five innings of three run baseball.
Despite a horrendous April, the Boston sluggers now rank 8th in both runs scored and OPS. Red Sox Nation hopes Michael Wacha can continue his brilliant start to the season.
Wacha is 5-1 on the season with a 2.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He has been outstanding of late, with only four runs allowed in the month of June.
Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers Prediction
The Boston Red Sox are favored at -130 on the money line, while the Detroit Tigers sit at +100 with a total of 9. This series seems like a matchup amongst men and boys.
The Red Sox have won 5-2 and 5-4 but basically had a comfortable lead from wire-to-wire. Detroit simply can’t score runs consistently and the Red Sox have potent sluggers from top to bottom.
Wacha should be able to shutdown the Tigers bats and score plenty of runs against Skubal. I’m confident enough to take the Red Sox at big plus money on the run line. However for purposes of this article we will roll with the Sox on the money line.
Prediction: Boston Red Sox -132
