Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis

The Boston Red Sox will play host for the second of three games against the Toronto Blue Jays from Fenway Park on Wednesday evening.ย  The Blue Jays curb stomped the Red Sox last night as they tripled them up 9-3.

The Red Sox enter the game with a disappointing 60-63 record, while the Blue Jays stand at 66-55.ย  The rookie Brayan Bello returns from the IL for Boston, while Toronto turns to the veteran righty Jose Berrios.ย  First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST/4:10 PST.

Blue Jays Build Wild Card Lead

The Toronto Blue Jays currently occupy one of the three Wild Card spots with a 2.5 game lead over the Baltimore Orioles. They increased that lead last night after taking advantage of an eight run 3rd inning and demolishing the Red Sox 9-3.

Ross Stripling has somehow become untouchable since returning from the IL. Last night he scattered six hits across six innings while allowing only one run. Basically every player on the team had multiple hits, but we’ll give George Springer offensive standout going 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBI. It must be nice to watch a team play up to their potential.

The Toronto offense remains one of the top units in the league as they rank top five across the board. Jose Berrios was solid in his last start against an injury riddled New York Yankees team.

However, August has been brutal on Berrios with an 8.69 ERA across 14+ innings of work. Berrios has struggled on the road with a 6.82, compared to a 4.10 home ERA.

Red Sox Season Of Frustration Continues

Late May and early June were the days to enjoy being a Red Sox fan this season as they have plummeted in the standings since then. Their record fell three games below .500 after getting spanked 9-3 last night. Rookie starter Josh Winckowski was brutalized for six runs on six hits across only 2.2 innings pitched.

Rafael Devers went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Christian Arroyo hit a double. The Red Sox season has been an utter disappointment and their slim playoff chances are all but gone.

Their lineup has struggled recently as they have scored three runs or less in three of their last four games. The Sox highly-touted prospect Brayan Bello will return from a groin injury on Wednesday evening.

It’s been a rough go for the youngster, he is 0-3 with a 8.82 ERA across 17 innings of work. He hasn’t made it past the 4th inning in any of his starts, leaving the bullpen with extensive ground to cover.

Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays enter this contest as road favorites with a money line set at -165, while the Boston Red Sox sit at +140 with a total of 9.5. It’s basically impossible to back the Boston Red Sox at this point and you can’t get behind Toronto when Berrios is on the hill.

Both starting pitchers have been awful more often than not. Berrios is horrible on the road to begin with and Fenway Park isn’t an easy park to navigate. Brayan Bello hasn’t had an outing that inspires a bit of confidence. He already struggled with longevity and now he’s coming off the IL.

The Sox pen is going to see prolonged work and they rank dead last with an ERA near 6.00 since the beginning of July. All signs point to the over in this one.

Prediction: Over 9.5 Runs Scored
