Chicago White Sox vs Baltimore Orioles Analysis

The Baltimore Orioles will begin a four game series against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday evening from Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox fell short of a sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays as they lost 9-5 yesterday.

The Orioles split a two game mini set against the Washington Nationals with a 7-0 victory. Baltimore will send right-hander Dean Kremer to the hill, while Chicago counters with the crafty veteran Johnny Cueto. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

Orioles Stay Competitive

The Baltimore Orioles were supposed to be a bottom of the barrel team as the season began. While they are in last place in their division, they have been much more competitive than expected.

They prevailed in a six and a half inning game with a 7-0 victory over Washington Nationals. Leadoff man Austin Hayes went 4 for 4 with a solo home run and three RBI.

Tyler Wells tossed five shutout innings and earned a victory. The O’s have a decent lineup between Trey Mancini, Ryan Mountcastle, Cedric Mullins etc. but they still rank 26th in team batting average.

The young right-hander Dean Kremer will get his 4th start of the season on Thursday night. Kremer has a 2.35 ERA across 15.1 innings of work, including six shutout innings in his last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Houston Set For Showdown

The Chicago White Sox season has been largely underwhelming as they are now a game below .500 after losing 9-5 to the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday.

Lucas Giolito was lit up for seven earned runs on 11 hits in only five innings pitched. The promising young slugger Andrew Vaughn went 3 for 5 while scoring a run.

The Pale Hose lineup is starting to take shape as they currently rank 5th in batting average. The 36 year-old veteran Johnny Cueto gets the nod for Chicago.

Cueto is 1-3 on the season with a 2.95 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He hurled seven scoreless innings with only two hits and two walks against the potent Houston Astros lineup.

Chicago White Sox vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Chicago White Sox enter this contest as -155 money line favorites, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +135 with a total of 9.

Both teams played yesterday but the White Sox had the luxury of staying home after the game. Kremer has been solid thus far, but we need to keep in mind that this is same pitcher who went 0-7 with a 7.55 ERA last season.

Meanwhile Cueto has an amazing pedigree and is coming off seven shutout innings against a dangerous Astros lineup.

The Orioles actually own a significant bullpen edge as they rank 7th with a 3.18 ERA compared to the White Sox who rank 21st with a 4.59 ERA. Let’s keep the late innings out of it and lay the -0.5 run line in the first five innings with normal -110 juice.

Prediction: Chicago White Sox F5 (first five innings) -0.5 -110
