Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Analysis
The Kansas City Royals meet the Chicago White Sox in the second of three games from Guarrnteed Rate Field on Wednesday night. The Royals prevailed last night in a 9-7 slugfest victory.
The White Sox lost their fifth straight game, dropping to three games below .500 with a 63-66 record. Chicago turns to the veteran righty Lance Lynn to right the ship, while Kansas City trots out the lefty Kris Bubic. First pitch is slated for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.
White Sox Fading Fast
The Chicago White Sox currently occupy 3rd place in the American League Central, six games behind the Cleveland Guardians. They are now 7.5 games out in the Wild Card race, so the division is their best shot at the post-season.
However it will now be ab uphill battle after losing five straight games including last night’s 9-7 debacle. Lucas Giolito was hammered for five runs on six hits across only 5.1 innings pitched, including three home runs.
Right fielder Gavin Sheets went 2 for 5 with two homeruns to give him five RBI on the night. Chicago has been decent offensively as they rank top five in batting average, but middle of the pack in OPS and runs scored.
Pale Hose starter Lance Lynn struggled out of the gate, resulting in the 5.00 ERA. However he has a 2-1 August record to go along with a 2.73 ERA across 29.2 innings of work. Two of the starts were against Kansas City, resulting in a 1-1 record with five runs allowed across 12 innings pitched.
Royals Play Spoiler
At 53-77 on the season, the Kansas City Royals can only take pride at playing hard and derailing their opposition. They did that last night in Chicago with a 9-7 triumph over the White Sox. Catcher Salvador Perez went 3 for 5 with a two run bomb, a double and three RBI.
First baseman Nick Pratto went 4 for 5, while hitting his 5th & 6th blasts of the season. Things started out great for Brady Singer but was lit up in the 5th inning and ended up with four runs allowed on nine hits in only 4.2 innings of work.
The Royals own the advantage in the season series as they lead Chicago 10-7. Flip that record and the White Sox are tied with Cleveland for the AL Central crown. Kansas City is a bottom five offense on the season, but they have improved a bit recently.
The struggling southpaw Kris Bubic will get the nod on Wednesday night. He is 2-9 on the season with a 5.62 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. Bubic has faced the White Sox once and allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits across 5.2 innings.
Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Prediction
The Chicago White Sox enter this contest as home favorites with a money line set at -180, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +155 with a total of 8.5. We cashed on the Royals F5 play on yesterday’s article but that was based on Brady Singer being on the mound for Kansas City.
However, the southpaw Kris Bubic is a different story. He allowed six runs on nine hits in only four innings of work in his last outing against the San Diego Padres.
The White Sox have infamously crushed left-handed pitching over the past few seasons and currently have the 7th highest OPS against them.
Bubic hasn’t lasted more than 5.2 innings in his last four starts and that bad news considering the Royals have the league’s most dreadful bullpen. They rank dead last in both ERA & WHIP at 4.85 and 1.51 respectively. All signs point towards a White Sox team total over 4.5 in this one.
Prediction: Chicago White Sox Team Total Over 4.5 -130
