Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers Analysis
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking to even up their interleague series against the Chicago White Sox after getting blanked 4-0 Tuesday night.
Both teams are in poor recent form as Los Angeles has lost 6 of their last 8 games and Chicago has lost 6 of their last 10 games.
The White Sox will send 36 year-old Johnny Cueto to the mound, while the Dodgers counter with righty Tony Gonsolin. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.
Cueto Faces Familiar Foe
The Chicago White Sox are coming off a 4-0 shutout of the Los Angeles to open this three game set. Michael Kopech bounced back from his worst outing of the season, hurling six shutout innings while allowing only one hit and striking out eight.
Offensive standout would have to go to A.J. Pollock who drove in two runs with a pinch-hit double. Johnny Cueto gets the nod against a Dodgers team that is no stranger.
He pitched in the National League for the vast majority of his career, including multiple seasons with San Francisco, a divisional rival of Los Angeles. Cueto has been solid thus far on the season with a 2.92 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across four outings.
However his last two haven’t been as good as the first, as he has allowed 8 runs in 12.2 innings of work. The Pale Hose won yesterday based on a strong starting pitching performance from Michael Kopech.
To keep winning, they will need more of those starts or for their hitting and/or bullpen to improve. They average only 3.66 runs per game with a team OPS of .656 that ranks 27th in the league and a bullpen ranks 21st with a 4.19 ERA.
Dodgers Sliding
The Los Angeles Dodgers offense is a runaway freight train that has been temporarily derailed yesterday as they were shutout for only the second time this season.
No Dodger hitter had a multi-hit game or extra-base hit in the 4-0 loss. Mitch White pitched well enough to give his team a chance with five shutout innings but the bullpen couldn’t hold it together.
We have went over how Los Angeles is at worst top five in every offensive category, including being 1st or 2nd in most. It’s been a rough go for the Dodgers recently as they are 2-6 in their last 8 games.
The Dodgers hope Tony Gonsolin can continue his winning ways to snap this skid. Gonsolin is 6-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across 51 innings of work. Gonsolin was spot on last time out against the New York Mets with six innings of shutout baseball.
Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
The Los Angeles Dodgers are heavily favored at -170 with the Chicago White Sox sitting at +155 and a total of 8.5. The Los Angeles offense isn’t going to stay quiet like this forever.
Johnny Cueto has given up 16 hits in his last two outings and if the Dodgers make contact like that they will be scoring plenty of runs.
Gonsolin has been a consistent 5-6 innings of quality baseball and he is backed by a top 10 bullpen. The money line is through the roof, so we will roll with the Dodgers run line on the road.
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5
