Cleveland Guardians vs Minnesota Twins Analysis
The Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians collide for the rubber match of a rare five game series on Thursday afternoon from Progressive Field. The Guardians won 7-6 in dramatic fashion yesterday with a walkoff blast in the bottom of the 10th.
The Twins still hold a two game lead in the American League Central. Cleveland will have the benefit of having their ace Shane Bieber on the mound, while Minnesota counters with the veteran righty Chris Archer. First pitch of this matinee is scheduled for 1:10 PM EST/10:10 PST.
Statement Game For Bieber
The Cleveland Guardians evened up the series 2-2 with a two run bomb by Josh Naylor in the bottom of the 10th inning. Shortstop Amed Rosario had a monster game, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Cal Quantrill preserved the bullpen, pitching eight innings while scattering eight hits and allowed three runs. The Guardians lineup ranks 20th in runs, 10th in batting average and 21st in OPS. They will go as far as their dynamic slugger Jose Ramirez carries them.
He’s batting .299 with 16 home runs and 63 RBI’s. There is no better man to help you pick up a game in the division than Shane Bieber. The 2020 Cy Young award winner has been lights out in June with a 2.87 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across five starts.
Bieber has a tremendous opportunity to slam the door on the series and gain another game on the Twins.
Twins Guard Top Spot In Division
The Minnesota Twins gave up a game in the division standings as Jharel Cotton served up a game winning bomb. Dylan Bundy gave his team a chance with five innings of three run (two earned) baseball. Max Kepler and Alex Kirilloff both hit two run jacks and Gio Urshela hit a solo job.
The Twins boast a top ten offense as they rank 8th in batting average, 6th in OPS and 9th in homeruns. Like Ramirez does for Cleveland, Byron Buxton is the bat the Twins rely heavily on.
He leads the team with 20 home runs and RBI’s with 36. Chris Archer draws the start for Minnesota, he is 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA across 57.1 innings of work.
In his last outing, he threw five scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies while only allowing one hit and one walk. Archer has been just as good as Bieber in June with a 1.57 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 23 innings of work.
Cleveland Guardians vs Minnesota Twins Prediction
The Cleveland Guardians come into the contest heavily favored on a -150 money line, with the Minnesota Twins sitting at +130 and a total of 8.5. This is my second article for this series and I’m again floored by how evenly matched and similar these rosters are.
Archer has been great but the Guardians still have a tremendous advantage with Bieber on the mound. They also have a great bullpen to back him that ranks 8th with a 3.35 ERA.
I lean towards the under here and if the Cleveland money line was any higher that the direction I would go. Generally -150 is about my limit on an MLB money line, so let’s roll with Bieber and the Guardians.
Prediction: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline -150
