Dodgers vs Rockies Analysis

The Colorado Rockies finish a three game series in Chavez Ravine against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Urena was called up from the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes, where he pitched most of this season after starting the year with the Milwaukee Brewers. Big Blue is looking for a series sweep in tonight’s contest, while the Rockies hope to salvage a game.

Struggles on the Road

The Rockies are playing slightly above average at home, but not so much on the road – and especially against right-handed pitchers. They have a 19th best OPS against righties, but with a decent .245 team batting average.

The hitting is still going strong as the Rox are tied for 10th with the Cubs in OPS at .727, and have the 2nd best team batting average at .261. The pitching has been predictably bad this year, as Colorado has a Rocky Mountain high 4.99 team ERA – 3rd worst in MLB with a 1.43 WHIP – along with a 3rd worst bullpen ERA. There’s not much else I can say about this club, as they’re a below average club who needs much better pitching.

Jose Urena is in a tough spot to make his return to “the show.” LA hits right-handed pitching better than anyone in baseball, and they should continue to keep rolling tonight against the Rockies new addition.

Best in the West

The Dodgers are playing like we thought they would at the start of the year, leading the NL West and with one of the best records in baseball. They have a 3rd best pitching staff ERA at 2.96 and a 1.10 WHIP, plus a 7th best bullpen ERA at 3.36 and a 1.13 WHIP.

And they lead MLB with a .760 team OPS, have a .252 team batting average and are 8th best in home runs at 100. Pret-ty, pret-ty good as Larry David would say, not much else I can add to these numbers.

Dodgers vs Rockies Prediction

Big Blue has a huge edge in the bullpen, and I don’t see how the visitors keep this game close. But even with the -1.5 run line, we’re not getting a great price. That’s why I like the Dodgers to go over team total runs scored, and maybe sprinkle a little on the 1st 5 innings over Dodgers total runs scored at plus money.

Prediction: Dodgers Over Team Total Runs Scored
