Giants vs Mets Analysis

The New York Mets go to Oracle Park Tuesday night to play the San Francisco Giants, the second in a three game series with Chris Bassitt going against Logan Webb. The Mets won game one Monday in a rout, 13 to 3.

San Francisco is a slight favorite at -125, the Mets are a +105 dog and the total is 7.5. The under is juiced to -115 to -120 depending on your sports book, and the over is +100. The numbers tell us that Vegas thinks tonight’s game will be lower scoring, and that last night’s 16-run eruption was an exception.

Mets Preview

The Metropolitans had no problem hitting at sea level after coming off three games in the altitude of Colorado. They scored more runs at Oracle Park last night (13) than the hitting mecca of Coors Field, where they plated 11 tallies in three games.

Through the first several weeks of play, Chris Bassitt has established himself as one of the best pitchers in MLB. In eight starts and 48.2 innings he has a 2.77 ERA, a WHIP of 1.09 along with 49 strikeouts.

The right hander has also pitched well in his three road starts, only giving up one earned run combined. He’s coming off a bad home start against the Cardinals where he gave up nine hits, four earned runs and two home runs in 6.1 innings. It looks like Bassitt is poised to bounce back tonight versus the Giants.

Giants Preview

After a good start to the season where they had one of the lowest staff ERAs in the league, the Giants pitching staff has really struggled. After last night’s 13-run shellacking, they dropped to 24th in team ERA and 25th best WHIP at 1.34.

They’re also on a five game losing streak, with the last four of those games at Oracle Park. While they’re going through a rough stretch right now, the Giants are too good of a team to stay in an extended slump.

Starter Logan Webb is 5-1 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in eight starts and 48.1 innings. The 25-year-old right hander has been a solid part of the Giants starting rotation, and should give them a good chance to end their losing streak tonight.

Giants vs Mets Prediction

Both teams have hit right handed pitching well as the Mets have the 3rd best OPS and Giants have the 9th best OPS versus righties. They’re also facing two good pitchers in Bassitt and Webb.

While San Fran hasn’t played well in recent games, this looks like a good “buy low” spot for the home team as they’re due for positive regression. Said another way, they’re too good to keep playing bad baseball – that’s why I’ll take the Giants on the money line.

Prediction: San Francisco Giants Moneyline
