Last season’s American League Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander is having another brilliant season with a 10-6 record, 3.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 110 strikeouts across 123.1 innings of work.
He’s been even better since joining the Astros at the trade deadline, going 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 29 strikeouts across 29 innings. Verlander has dominated the Yankees this season, holding them to only 3 runs on 12 hits with 16 strikeouts across 19 innings of work.
Stanton has also struggled against Verlander throughout his career, going only 4-24 (.167) with 10 strikeouts and two home runs.
Speaking of home runs, hitting one is the only way Stanton has cleared this number in his last 15 games. Regardless, the “Bronx Bombers” are facing an uphill battle against Verlander pitching at home tonight, making the Stanton under worth a small play.
