Home Run Prop Prediction 1: Wilson Contreras (+320)

Wilson Contreras is coming off a big 3-RBI game against the Cardinals in which the Cubs won in extra innings on Sunday. Tonight the Cubs start a series with the Reds in Chicago and Luis Castillo takes the mound for Cincinnati.

Contreras has posted solid numbers against Castillo going 7-15 in his career with a home run. He’s hit 12 home runs this season, seven of which coming in Wrigley Field.

An unusual stat about Contreras is that five of his 12 home runs have come on the first pitch of an at-bat. So don’t be surprised to see Contreras get aggressive early and often in his at-bats as his batting average trends downwards with every pitch of an at-bat. He’s been hitting in the top three of the batting order as well maximizing the amount of at-bats he could see on any given night.

Castillo has pitched once against the Cubs already this season going five innings and allowing two earned runs.

Contreras is listed at +320 to smack a home run out of Wrigley Field tonight but other Cubs hitters to consider are Ian Happ (+450) who is 8-22 with a home run against Castillo and Jason Hayward (+650) who is 8-24 with two home runs against him.

Home Run Prop Prediction 2: Chris Taylor (+380)

The Dodgers are coming off an uncharacteristic shutout loss to the Rockies as they were coming off a hard fought series win in Atlanta over the weekend.

I don’t see anywhere near the same thing happening tonight with Kyle Freeland taking the mound for Colorado posting a 5.32 ERA in home starts and allowing five home runs in 45.2 innings pitched at home as well.

Chris Taylor has had moderate success against Freeland going 7-26 all-time against him with two home runs. He hit 20 home runs in 2021 and is behind that pace so far this season with only six.

His last home run was way back on June 3 and he’s due to hit another soon. Colorado’s bullpen has the third highest ERA in the MLB and Taylor has a home run off Rockies reliever Ty Blach as well. Get Taylor at +380 but other Dodgers to consider in this great matchup are Will Smith (+340) and Trea Turner (+380).
