Kansas City Royals vs Boston Red Sox Analysis

The Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals square off for the second game of a four game series from Kauffman Stadium. The Royals took home the victory last night behind a four run rally in the 7th inning.

The Red Sox will look to bounce back and get themselves back into the Wild Card mix. The 38 year-old veteran Zack Greinke toes the rubber for Kansas City, while the 24 year-old youngster Josh Winckowski gets the nod for Boston. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

A Rare Royal Victory

The Kansas City Royals picked up a 7-3 victory last night to improve a horrendous 42-64 record. Catcher Salvador Perez went 2 for 4 with two RBI, while hitting his 15th home run.

Kris Bubic turned in a solid performance where he allowed only two runs in six innings while striking out six. It was a rare victory for a team that will finish in last or second to last in the American League Central standings.

The Royals are bottom barrel in almost any offensive category imaginable and that was with Andrew Benintendi and Whit Merrifield in their lineup. Kansas City will turn to the crafty veteran Zack Greinke in hopes of another victory.

He is 3-6 with a 4.41 ERA and 1.30 WHIP on the season. Greinke held the New York Yankees to three runs on five hits across five innings in his last outing.

Red Sox Watching Playoff Hopes Slip Away

The Boston Red Sox took a 7-3 loss in what continues to be an up and down season. Nick Pivetta tossed five innings of three run baseball and the bullpen gave up another four runs in the final three innings.

Rafael Devers drove in the two Red Sox runs with a first inning single. The Red Sox have been playing poorly recently and they continue to slip in the American League Wild Card standings.

They are only four games out, however they have to leapfrog six teams to get there. Boston had a weird trade deadline as they acquired Tommy Pham and Eric Hosmer but traded away fan favorite catcher Christian Vazquez.

Red Sox Nation hasn’t given up on the season, but they need to start stacking some victories. The rookie righty Josh Winckowski gets his turn in the rotation. He was good in his last outing against the Milwaukee Brewers where he pitched five innings of two run baseball. On the season he is 3-5 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

Kansas City Royals vs Boston Red Sox Prediction

This game is a virtual pick’em with the Boston Red Sox money line set at -115, while the Kansas City Royals sit at -105 with a total of 9. Both starters have been vulnerable this season, Winckowski has a brutal 5.18 ERA and Greinke has an ugly 4.35 ERA.

Opposing hitters are hitting .285 against Winckowski and .277 against Greinke. The Red Sox lineup is still dangerous as they rank top 10 in most offensive categories.

The Royals are the greatest hitting club, but Perez is heating up and Winckowski is more than hittable. Let’s not over think this one and roll with the over 9.

Prediction: Over 9 Total Runs Scored
