Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis

The Toronto Blue Jays begin a three game series with the Kansas City Royals on Monday evening from Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals suffered a 2-1 series defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros after losing 7-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays also dropped the rubber game of their three game series 8-6 at home against the Minnesota Twins.

Spot starter Ross Stripling gets a turn in Toronto’s rotation, while the lanky lefty Daniel Lynch gets the nod for Kansas City. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

Jays Look to Dominate Road Trip

The Toronto Blue Jays begin a six game road trip where they should have some success as they play three in Kansas City and three in Detroit. They did win four of six on their home stand but fell short in their last series 2-1 after dropping the final game 8-6.

Kevin Gausman only lasted 3.2 innings, while allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits. Leadoff man George Springer hit his 11th homerun and third baseman Matt Chapman hit his 7th but it still wasn’t enough.

The Blue Jays offense surprisingly only ranks 20th in runs, but do rank 6th in OPS and 11th in wRC+. Ross Stripling will be making his 14th appearance of the season, he’s been used primarily out of the bullpen but draws a spot start on Monday night.

The veteran righty isn’t dominating but he is serviceable, with 4.22 ERA and 1.28 WHIP across 32 innings of work.

Kansas City Season Is BBQ Chicken

Everyone remembers the Cincinnati Reds horrendous starting streak, don’t look now but at 17-35 the Kansas City Royals have the worst record in the majors.

They have lost 13 of their last 16 games, the most recent loss being a 7-4 let down against the Houston Astros. Salvador Perez did everything he could to keep Kansas City in the game, with a two run blast and RBI double.

The rest of the lineup fell flat and the bullpen couldn’t hold down the Houston hitters. The Royals pen is one of the worst as they rank 28th with a 4.84 ERA. Offensively you name the category and they are bottom five at best.

Kansas City turns to the southpaw Daniel Lynch in an attempt to stop the bleeding. It seems like Lynch might not be ready for the major leagues, but the Royals don’t have other options. He has a 4.81 ERA with a bloated 1.56 WHIP due to his lack of control.

Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays are heavily favored with a -170 money line, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +150 with a total of 10. Prior to the series against Minnesota this weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays were in great form winning 8 straight games.

The Royals have the worst record in the big leagues and the only advantage you can find is they are still playing at home. However, that may not matter as they are only 9-16 at home this season.

Toronto finished last season as the best hitting team against left-handed pitching by a wide margin. They aren’t quite at that level this season, but as they get healthy they could approach it.

That bad news for Daniel Lynch, as the Jays bats heat up he has cooled off tremendously. Lynch has allowed 12 runs on 21 hits in his last three starts. Throw in that the Royals are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and the Toronto run line is the only way to look here.

Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 -115
