LA Dodgers vs San Diego Padres Analysis

The Padres stunned the Mets in the Wild Card round as San Diego’s offense and pitching staff appear to be clicking at the right time. The Dodgers have not played a meaningful baseball game in weeks, so it is fair to wonder if they are able to come out hot or if their long break will affect them. The Dodgers dominated the regular season series against the Padres, going 14-5 against their NL West rival.

Friars Heating Up

The Padres went to New York and beat a 100-win Mets team in the first round of the playoffs in impressive fashion. San Diego was able to hit the Mets’ aces as well as put on a pitching clinic in two of the three games. The Friars went 46-36 on the road in the regular season, but they had trouble beating the Dodgers, so this series will be very interesting.

Mike Clevinger will take the mound against the Dodgers tonight in Los Angeles. Clevinger has had a rough 2022 campaign and he was not good in any of his three starts against the Dodgers this season.

On the road this season, Clevinger has pitched a lot worse than he did when pitching at home, posting a 5.46 ERA, a .255 batting average against, a .442 slugging percentage against, a 5.16 FIP, and a 1.35 WHIP.

Best in the West

The Dodgers locked up a postseason birth and the NL West a long, long time ago, and they have been gearing up for this series the whole time. Los Angeles has not played a game in six days, so while they are rested, this team has no momentum. Regardless, the Dodgers are the best team on paper in the playoffs and they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Julio Urias will make the start for the Dodgers tonight at home. Urias put together an excellent regular season and he shut down the Padres in their meetings this year. At home this season, Urias had a 2.43 ERA, a .183 batting average against, a .359 slugging percentage against, a 4.27 FIP, and a 0.89 WHIP. The Dodgers went 9-5 in his home starts this season.

LA Dodgers vs San Diego Padres Prediction

In October, I cannot lay -200 or higher juice on a game, but it is easy to see why the Dodgers are such big favorites. I do not trust the Padres against Los Angeles, but I do like the over in this game. These two teams cleared seven runs in ten of their 19 regular season meetings, and I expect the Dodgers to put some crooked numbers on the board against Clevinger. Even with how good Urias has been, I expect some runs in Game of of the NLDS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
