Los Angeles Angels vs Chicago White Sox Analysis
The Chicago White Sox visit the Los Angeles Angels to play the rubber match of their three game series.
It’s a battle of right handed starters and what should be a good pitching matchup, as Michael Kopech takes the mound against reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani. The White Sox are a +170 road underdog, the Angels a -190 home favorite and the run total is 7.5.
Chicago White Sox Betting Preview
Tuesday night the White Sox bats woke up to score double digit runs in an 11-4 win. Starter Chase Silseth gave up five total and three earned runs and the Angels bullpen couldn’t put out the fire.
Kopech has put up some really good numbers this year for the south-siders. In 13 starts and 62 innings he has a 2.59 ERA, an excellent 1.01 WHIP with 57 strikeouts. The right hander has only allowed four home runs this season, but has had issues with control at times giving up 29 walks.
The White Sox have struggled to hit right handed pitching this year, as they have a fourth worst OPS of .657 with a .243 team batting average.
Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview
Ohtani had an excellent outing his last game on the mound, going 8.0 shutout innings on June 22nd, giving up just two hits and striking out 13 against the Royals.
He’s performed well on the mound, through 12 starts and 68.0 innings he has a 2.90 ERA, an outstanding 1.01 WHIP with 90 strikeouts.
The Angels are middle of the pack hitting against righties this year, tied for 14th with the Cubs with a .711 OPS and a .239 team batting average.
This lineup can mash as they’re 6th in home runs with 95 long flies. However, their weakness is plate discipline as they have the most team strikeouts with 725 through 77 games. That comes to 9.4 Ks per game – yikes.
Los Angeles Angels vs Chicago White Sox Prediction
I think both starting pitchers will be tough to score on, and this should be a “get up” spot for Kopech going against Ohtani. While I have a slight lean to the Angels at home, it’s tough to lay -175 to take them on the moneyline and trust that shaky Halos bullpen.
While Ohtani will be hard-pressed to have as good a start as his last one, he should still do well against a White Sox club that’s in the bottom 1/3rd of MLB in runs scored. These are the reasons I’ll lean to the 1st 5 innings under total runs scored.
Prediction: 1st 5 Innings Under Total Runs Scored
