Los Angeles Dodgers vs Los Angeles Angels Analysis
The Los Angeles Angels travel to Chavez Ravine to take on their cross-town rival, the LA Dodgers in the last of a two game series.
The home team took game one last night 2-0 behind a strong performance from Tony Gonsolin, and the Halos look to even things up tonight with Reid Detmers (2-2, 3.83 ERA) going against fellow southpaw Tyler Anderson (7-0, 3.07 ERA). The Dodgers are a -190 favorite, the Angels a +170 dog with the run total at 9.
Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview
Reid Detmers has had a fairly solid rookie season for the Halos. In 10 starts and 49.1 innings, he’s put up a 3.83 ERA, a stellar 1.01 WHIP and struck out 32.
The lefty doesn’t strike out a lot of guys and pitches more to contact, but for the most part he’s gotten the job done.
Detmers only has two starts where he’s given up more than three runs, but he doesn’t go deep into games.
He’s only had two starts where he’s gone beyond the 5th inning, one of them was his complete game no-hitter against Tampa Bay on May 10.
There’s a good chance the bullpen may be called on early tonight, after Quijada and Wentz went for 3.1 frames last night.
The Angels bullpen has been less than reliable in the past few weeks, with a 20th best season-long ERA of 4.25, and doesn’t bode well for the visiting team.
Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview
Tyler Anderson has been a pleasant surprise in the Dodgers starting rotation. Especially with Clayton Kershaw spending time on the IL and Walker Buehler not pitching as well as expected.
In 11 games, nine starts and 58.2 innings, Anderson has put up a 3.07 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, struck out 55 and has only allowed nine walks and six home runs.
He’s coming off a bad start June 9 at the White Sox where he went 3.0 innings, gave up four hits, four walks and four earned runs. This looks to be a bounce-back situation going against a strike-out prone Angels lineup.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction
The Angels have struggled the last few weeks, even after firing manager Joe Madden. And they have the 2nd highest strikeout rate in MLB.
While Detmers has pitched fairly well this year, I think Tyler Anderson has the edge in this starting pitching matchup.
The visitors will probably have to go to the bullpen after four or five innings, and I like the Dodgers bullpen much better than the Angels’. That’s why I like the Dodgers on the run line.
