Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets Analysis
The New York Mets travel to Chavez Ravine to play the slumping Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a four game set The Dodgers lost three games in a row to Pittsburgh at home, while the Mets took all three games from the Nats at Citi Field.
It looks like a good pitching matchup of right-handers, with Tajuan Walker going against Tony Gonsolin. LA is a -160 favorite and the Mets are a +150 underdog.
New York Mets Betting Analysis
The Mets had a great series in Washington, outscoring the Nats by a combined 28-5, and finishing with 21 scoreless innings. Granted, they’re one of the worst teams in MLB, but it’s impressive how the Metropolitans took care of business in the nation’s capital.
The offense has caught fire, as now the Mets have the second best team OPS in baseball – right behind the Dodgers. Pitching has also been solid – even with injuries to DeGrom and Scherzer – as New York has a 10th best staff ERA of 3.63, and a 9th best bullpen ERA of 3.43.
Walker is off to a good start this year with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in seven starts and 35.0 innings.
Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis
Tony Gonsolin has been a pleasant surprise for the Dodgers staff this year. In nine starts and 45.0 innings, the right-hander has a 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 44 strikeouts.
He’s given up 16 walks and three home runs year-to-date, and his numbers are pretty solid across the board.
With the exception of Mookie Betts, the Dodgers haven’t done that well at the plate in the Pirate series. However, they still have the best team OPS in baseball at .770.
It was a little shocking to see them get swept at home by the Pirates. These kind of downturns happen to every team during a 162-gane season, so we shouldn’t get too concerned about this club from one bad series.
However, it can take a little time for a baseball team to break out of a downturn. They’ll usually win a close game or two before they return to their expected form.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets Prediction
These two teams are trending in opposite directions, as the Mets have gotten better this past week, while the Dodgers played poorly against one of the worst teams in baseball.
This should be a close game into the later innings, but I have more confidence in the visitors’ ability to close out a game than the home team.
That’s why I’ll take the Mets for a full unit on the run line, and 1/2 a unit on the moneyline.
Prediction: New York Mets Run Line +1.5
