Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Analysis
The San Francisco Giants travel south to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a four game series. Big Blue enters this game with a 60-30 record leading the National League West and San Fran has a 48-43 record, trailing LA by 12.5 games.
Southpaw Carlos Rodon and right hander Mitch White take the bump, and first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 Eastern Time.
The Dodgers opened as a -160 favorite and the Giants as a +135 underdog with a total of 8.5. But the money and odds have gone in the visiting team’s favor, down to +122 and LA at -145, with totals mixed at different books between 8 and 8.5. Both teams had strong finishes prior to the All-Star Break.
The Giants had a 5-1 streak through last Sunday and looked like the better version of this team we saw earlier in the season. The Dodgers were red-hot winning four in a row, 11 of their last 12 and 15 of their previous 17 games.
Rondon Ready to Go
Carlos Rodon was selected to his second All-Star game, but didn’t play due to a cracked nail and blood blister on his left middle finger. But he is cleared to pitch tonight, as he’s had eight days of rest since his last start. San Francisco looks like they may have put the pieces together right before the All-Star break.
Injuries and pitching problems caused this team to swoon in May and June after a great start to the season. But now this team is healthy with Lamonte Wade Jr. and Mike Yastrzemski back in the lineup, and the team ERA has come down to 3.84.
Dodgers Doing Damage in NL
The Dodgers are playing like the juggernaut team we thought they’d be. A 60-30 record is a pace to win 108 games this season, and barring injuries they have the talent to hit this win mark.
Mitch White has been a serviceable starter for LA since making the switch from the bullpen to the starting rotation. He’s 0-2 with a 4.04 ERA and the Dodgers have gone 4-4 in his eight starts
Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Prediction
The Giants didn’t play well in their last series in Chavez Ravine, and I think they want to have a better showing this time around. Both starters are well rested as Rodon is working with six days rest, and Mitch White with eight.
Breaks in routine and action are usually negative for the hotter team, which in this case is the Dodgers. I think San Fran will be ready and up for this game and want to make a statement. That’s why I’ll take the visiting team on the moneyline.
