Minnesota Twins vs Baltimore Orioles Analysis
A new month brings a new series as the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins begin a three-gamer from Target Field on Friday evening.
The Twins are coming off a series in Cleveland where they lost three of five games against the Guardians. The Orioles were also on the road in Seattle where they lost two of three games against the Mariners.
A couple of right-handed pitchers go head-to-head as Spenser Watkins gets the nod for Baltimore and Joe Ryan takes the mound for Minnesota. First pitch is slated for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.
Ups and Downs For Young Baltimore Bats
The Baltimore as/ lost the rubber match of a three game series 9-3 on Wednesday night. Opener Austin Voth threw innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits. Trey Mancini had a two RBI double.
The Orioles need to improve at the plate as they currently rank 24th with a .678 OPS. The future looks bright as they have dynamic young hitters like Cedric Mullins, Ryan Mountcastle and Adley Rutschman, that is until they trade some of them away.
The struggling young Spenser Watkins will be looking to right the ship. He has a 5.14 ERA and 1.63 WHIP and things could be even worse as he has a bloated 6.47 xERA. Watkins has pitched against Minnesota earlier this season as he went 4.2 innings while allowing three runs on
Rays Head North
The Minnesota Twins are coming off a hard fought five game series against the Cleveland Guardians where they ended up on short end of the stick 3-2.
They lost the rubber match 5-3 yesterday afternoon in Cleveland. Chris Archer only lasted four innings but only allowed one run. Leadoff man Luis Arraez went 2 for 4 with a run scored. The Twins have a powerhouse lineup that ranks 6th in the majors with a .740 OPS with an average of 4.51 runs a game.
Minnesota starter Joe Ryan is having a great season, with a 6-3 record, 3.20 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Last time out wasn’t his sharpest outing, but he held the Colorado Rockies to three runs in five innings of work.
Minnesota Twins vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction
The Minnesota Twins enter this game as a heavy favorite with a money line of -225, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +190 with a total of 9.5. The Twins are 7-4 in Joe Ryan’s 11 starts but he hasn’t been quite as sharp recently with a 5.74 ERA in his last three outings.
Spenser Watkins may be in over his head in this one as his 92 mph heater with no movement should get crushed by the potent Twins lineup.
I do like the Twins to win, but not at this price and I don’t trust the run line with Baltimore having the bullpen edge. I’m making a small play on the over 9.5 with both teams having opportunities to contribute.
Prediction: Over 9.5 Total Runs Scored
