Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox Analysis

The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins begin a four game set on Thursday evening from Target Field in their last series before the All-Star break.

The Twins split two home games against the Milwaukee Brewers, while the White Sox salvaged a four game split in Cleveland against the Guardians. The White Sox have tremendous opportunity to gain ground on Minnesota as they are currently five games behind the Twins.

Two veteran righties are going head-to-head as the 36 year-old Johnny Cueto faces the 32 year-old Sonny Gray. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST/4:40 PST.

Touch of Gray For Twins

The Minnesota Twins prevailed 4-1 over the Milwaukee Brewers to end with a split in a two game series. Joe Ryan held the Brewers to one run on two hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Three bullpen arms combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of work. Jose Miranda went 3 for 5 with a three run blast. The Twins continue to control the American League Central with a 4.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians and 5 games over the Chicago White Sox.

Minnesota has a potent offensive attack as they currently rank 6th in OPS and 9th in scoring. Sonny Gray gets the ball for the Twins as he looks to right the ship. Gray has a 4-2 record and 3.03 ERA on the season but has allowed eight runs across 9.2 innings in his last two starts.

Cueto and Sox Look to Gain Ground

The Chicago White Sox improved to 43-45 with a 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians yesterday. Lucas Giolito scattered five hits and allowed only one unearned run in 6.1 innings pitched.

Luis Robert went 3 for 4 with a double, while Jose Abreu went 2 for 4 with an RBI double. The Pale Hose sit five games out in their division but only 3.5 games away from a wild card spot.

They have fallen well short of expectations on offense as they rank only 19th in scoring and 24th in OPS. Johnny Cueto has been sharp in his 15th career campaign with a 3-4 record and 2.91 ERA.

He hurled eight scoreless while scattering five hits in his last outing against the Detroit Tigers. He faced this very same Twins in the start prior to that and held them to two runs on five hits in six innings of work.

Andy Lang Special

Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox Prediction

The Minnesota Twins are home favorites with a -165 money line, while the Chicago White Sox sit at +140 with a total of 8.5. Both starters have consistently churned out quality starts and have great track records against the opposing lineup.

The Twins lineup is powerful but I’m actually more confident in him as opposed to Gray based on current form. However both teams have middle of the pack bullpens, so we will keep them out of it. Let’s take a shot at the under 4.5 during the first five innings at -110 odds. I like our chances to get some strong work early on from these starters.

Prediction: Under 4.5 F5 -110 (first five innings)
