Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Dodgers Analysis
The Los Angeles Dodgers travel to Minnesota for the first game of an interleague series with the Twins on Tuesday night.
The Twins pulled off a split in a four game series with the Seattle Mariners, despite losing the first two games.
The Dodgers have started the season poorly, losing two straight games after winning on opening day. Los Angeles was off on Monday after losing their last game against the Rockies 9-4 on Sunday afternoon. Being that they are in different leagues, these teams did not square off last season.
Twins Split Series
After losing two straight one run baseball games to start the season, the Minnesota Twins outscored the Seattle Mariners 14-4 in the next two to split the four game set.
Byron Buxton have provided a powerful sparkplug at the top of the Twins order. Buxton has hit for a .333 batting average and 1.067 slugging percentage while already hitting three home runs and two doubles.
The two doubles went along with two runs scored in yesterday’s 4-0 victory over Seattle. Dylan Bundy pitched better than expected, with five scoreless innings and only allowing one hit and one walk.
Four relief pitchers each worked a clean inning to complete the shutout. On Tuesday, the Twins will hand the ball to Chris Archer. In 2021, the right-handed hurler was 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA and 21 strikeouts. Archer was limited to just five starts with Tampa Bay last season due to injury.
Lofty Expectations In Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the season as favorites to win the World Series Championship based on their tremendously talented roster.
It’s only been three games, but they have gotten off to a slow start offensively. The Dodgers only managed to score 11 runs in their first three games against the Colorado Rockies.
Starting pitcher Julio Urias struggled on the mound, allowing six earned runs on six hits across only two innings resulting in a loss.
It was an abysmal day for the LA bats, they went 10-35 from the plate including going 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
Chris Taylor was the lone bright spot, going 2 for 3 while driving in a run. Andrew Heaney gets the nod for the Dodgers on Tuesday night. Last season the south paw went 8-9 with an ERA of 5.83 and 150 strikeouts.
Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
The Los Angeles Dodgers are -135 money line favorites while the Minnesota Twins are +115 underdogs with a total set at 9.
The Dodgers have an impeccable interleague record recently, going 35-16 in their last 51 games. The Twins have had trouble seeing lefties with only a 2-10 record in their last 12 games against south paws.
The Twins have struggled with Heaney, only batting .159 with only one home run in 64 plate appearances. The lone bright spot is Carlos Correa going 6 for 19 as a member of the Houston Astros.
Meanwhile the Dodgers have raked against Chris Archer, batting .290 with a 1.072 OPS and 7 home runs in 84 plate appearances.
Mookie Betts have done the majority of that damage going 12 for 36 for a .333 batting average with four home runs and two doubles.
You need to find value early in the MLB season and guarantee you there will come a point where you wouldn’t dream of getting the Dodgers at only -135.
They have started slow, but have the superior offense and better starting pitcher. Los Angeles is the only direction I can look. Player props have not been released yet but I would look towards Mookie Betts over 1.5 total bases at the right price, maybe -115 or better.
