Minnesota Twins vs Milwaukee Brewers Analysis
The Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins begin a short two game interleague series from Target Field on Tuesday night.
It will be a battle between Central division leaders as the Brewers lead the N.L. Central by two games, while the Minnesota Twins lead the A.L. Central by four games. Minnesota lost two of three games in Texas over the weekend, while Milwaukee lost two of three at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It will also be a showdown between two rookie righties as Jason Alexander takes the mound for the Brewers and Josh Winder gets the nod for the Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST/4:40 PST.
Brew Crew Clings to First in NL Central
The Milwaukee Brewers record fell to 48-39 after losing 8-6 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. They currently lead the National League Central by two games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Starter Eric Lauer threw five innings of three run baseball and Trevor Gott got the loss after allowing two runs in the sixth inning.
Andrew McCutchen hit a two run blast against his former team but they still fell short. The Brew Crew enters this contest as losers in four of their last five games. They ranked 10th in runs scored and do most of their damage with the long ball as they rank 4th in home runs.
Jason Alexander will be looking to bounce back after his worst outing of the season. He served up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in only 5.1 innings against the Chicago Cubs. He has some scary numbers on the season, with a 4.75 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and only 17 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Twins Top AL Central
The Minnesota Twins improved to 48-40 after salvaging the final game of a three game set with a 6-5 victory over the Texas Rangers.
They occupy the top spot in the American League Central with a four game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. Dylan Bundy tossed five innings and allowed four runs but came away with the victory. Byron Buxton hit a solo bomb for his 23rd on the season.
The Twins lineup ranks similar to that of the Brewers in that they are long ball dependent, sitting at 8th in runs and 7th in home runs. Rookie starter Josh Winder comes into the game with limited major league experience.
He has a 3.12 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with a 27/12 K/BB ratio across 40 innings of work. He held his own last time out and earned the victory with two runs allowed in five innings against the Chicago White Sox.
Minnesota Twins vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
The Minnesota Twins are home favorites with a -135 money line, while the Milwaukee Brewers sit at +115 with a total of 9. I lean towards the Twins in this one as the Brewers have been in poor form but prefer the over 9.
Neither starter has overpowering stuff and both lineups can score their share of runs. Alexander is backed by a solid bullpen but he may not last long based on his last outing. I’m a little more confident in Winder but he will only pitch 5-6 innings max and the Twins pen has had their share of problems.
The total has gone over in five straight Twins games and the Brewers have given plenty of runs to the likes of the Cubs and Pirates recently. Both lineups are top ten in scoring and both have the ability to hit homeruns and expose these young starters. Give me over 9 with plenty of confidence.
Prediction: Over 9
Lean: Minnesota Twins -145
