Nationals vs Mets Analysis
On a rainy and windy Thursday night, the Mets and Nationals finally got their game in after a lengthy delay with Tylor Megill defeating Patrick Corbin. Washington is sending young stud Josiah Gray to the bump on Friday night while the Mets will have ace Max Scherzer on the hill to face his old team.
Soto Flying Solo
Washington was held to just six hits and scored only one run which came on a Juan Soto moonshot. The Nationals are supposed to be rebuilding this year, and their lack of offensive firepower already showed last night. Starting pitcher Patrick Corbin was solid through four innings but began to lose control and allow hits in the fifth.
The Nationals have Josiah Gray on the hill tonight. Gray, just 21 years old, resembles hope for Washington’s chances to rebuild an elite starting rotation.
After a shaky season last year, Gray is looking to prove he is one of the top young talents in baseball. The Nationals line up will have to face ex-National and 3x Cy Young Max Scherzer – which will be a difficult matchup.
A Familiar Foe
In classic Mets fashion, their first run of the 2022 season came off a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. After a scoreless four innings, the Mets put up two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh, and won 5-1. New York did a great job getting on base and manufacturing runs, and probably should have scored more than the five that they put on the scoreboard.
Tonight, the Mets will face off against Josiah Gray, the Nationals’ best young pitching prospect. Ironically, Gray was traded to the Nationals as a part of the Max Scherzer deal to Los Angeles, and now he will go head-to-head with Scherzer.
Gray struggled with walks and command last season, so if the Mets can be patient at the plate, New York can manufacture runs like they did last night.
Nationals vs Mets Prediction
I think Josiah Gray will show why he is touted as one of the better young pitching prospects in baseball. Gray produced a -.3 WAR in 13 starts last season, and we can chalk that up to a rookie’s first time in the Big Leagues.
We all know what Scherzer can do on the hill, so I think this game can be a pitcher’s duel until the game is put up to the bullpens to decide. I like under 4.5 runs in the first five innings of this game.
If you enjoy playing the first inning prop market, I also recommend a wager on the “no score in the first inning” which is available around even-money at the time of posting.
