New York Yankees vs New York Mets Analysis
The second and final game of this version of the “Subway Series” will be played on Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium. The Bronx Bombers prevailed over the Mets last night and doubled them up 4-2.
The Mets will be out to avenge the loss and prepare for a four game series at home against the Colorado Rockies. The newly acquired Frankie Montas will look to bounce back from an ugly outing, while the 30 year-old righty Taijuan Walker gets the nod for the Metropolitans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.
Mets Look For Split
Mets starter Max Scherzer was out-dueled by the Yankees Domingo German in 4-2 loss last night in the Bronx. Scherzer ended up giving up four runs on seven hits across 6.2 innings when the dust settled.
Designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach hit a two run bomb for his 16th homerun of the season. The Mets record dropped to 79-45, which gives them a three game lead over the pesky Atlanta Braves. Their offensive attack has clicked throughout the season as they rank 4th in runs scored and 7th in OPS at .740.
Taijuan Walker toes the rubber with a 10-3 record, 3.36 ERA and 1.20 WHIP on the season. Walker only pitched two innings in his last outing as he exited with back spasms. Walker does need some work on lowering his extremely high 7.7 barrel percentage.
Yanks Need To Get Back On Track
The New York Yankees strung together two consecutive wins for the first time in August with a 4-2 victory over the Mets last night at Yankee Stadium. Domingo German stepped it up to get the victory with only two runs (one earned) allowed across 6.1 innings of work.
Aaron Judge went 2 for 4 while hitting his 47th blast of the season, while Andrew Benintendi went 2 for 3 with a double & two RBI from the leadoff spot. The Judge stat line is ridiculous, 1.044 OPS, 47 homeruns, 103 RBI and 13 steals to boot.
Both the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays have cut the American League East divisional lead to single digits as they sit 8.5 & 8 games behind respectively. Frankie Montas obviously greatly benefited from pitching half his games in the pitchers park that is Oakland Coliseum.
Since joining the Yanks he 0-1 with 14 runs allowed on 18 hits across 14 innings, resulting in a 9.00 ERA. It will be interesting to see how Montas bounces back in a high pressure spot.
New York Yankees vs New York Mets Prediction
A close game is projected as the Yankees are favored with a money line set at -130, while the Mets sit at +110 with a total of 8.5. This contest screams over with both starting pitchers having question marks.
Walker left his last outing with back spasms that could flare back up at any time. He is backed by an elite bullpen but their usage has spiked recently due to hard fought divisional battles and starting pitcher injuries.
The Bombers bats may have come back to life last night with four runs scored on the ace Max Scherzer. We went over Montas struggles and now he faces a top five offense in OPS, IOS and wRC+.
The Yanks had an elite pen, but over the last 30 days they rank 28th in FIP, 30th in BB% and 23rd in K%. The cherry on top is the wind is blowing out at a hitters park tonight, back the over.
Prediction: Over Runs Scored 8.5 -115
