New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays Analysis

The Tampa Bay Rays travel to the Big Apple for a three game A.L. East showdown with the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees easily swept the Chicago Cubs in a three game home set this weekend. Meanwhile the Rays salvaged the final game of a three game series 6-0 in Minnesota against the Twins.

Gerrit Cole will hope to put a horrendous outing behind him on Tuesday night, while the veteran righty Corey Kluber will get the nod for Tampa Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.

Can Cole Bounce Back?

The New York Yankees have now won 11 of their last 12 games, improving their league best record to 44-16. They are coming off a tremendous 18-4 victory in a three game series where they outscored the Chicago Cubs 28-5.

Catcher Kyle Higashioka and third baseman Matt Carpenter each hit two dingers in the offensive onslaught. Jameson Taillon did his job with five innings of three run baseball, while two bullpen arms handled the final four innings.

The pinstripes offensive attack ranks top five if not top ten in almost any offensive category imaginable. This will be an interesting outing for Yankee ace Gerrit Cole after getting crushed in his last start against the Minnesota Twins.

Cole only lasted 2.1 innings while allowing 7 earned runs on 8 hits including 5 blasts. Still, Cole is 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 84 strikeouts and only 17 walks across 67 innings of work.

Rays Look To Gain Ground

The Tampa Bay Rays are coming off a series where they lost two of three games, resulting in a 35-25 record that puts them in 3rd place in the American League East.

They salvaged the final game of the series with a 6-0 shutout victory. Jeffrey Springs tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and four relievers kept the Twins off the board to close out the game. Center fielder Kevin Kiermaier went 2 for 4 with a solo blast and two RBI.

The Tampa offense ranks 20th in runs scored and only 24th in batting average and 23rd in slugging percentage.

The 36 year-old right hander Corey Kluber gets the nod for the Rays on Tuesday night. He is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Kluber has struck out 51 while walking only 9 in 55.2 innings pitched.

New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays Prediction

The New York Yankees are heavily favored by -235 on the money line, while the Tampa Bay Rays sit at +190 with a total of 8. These teams split a four game series in Tampa Bay at the end of May.

Both teams have amazing bullpens as the Yanks rank 2nd with a 2.87 ERA, while the Rays rank 6th with a 3.05. Kluber was able to stifle the Yankee bats in his last outing with six innings of one run baseball.

Cole is coming off his worst outing of his season hands down and you have to wonder what his issue was and will it hamper him again.

This seems like a much more important game for the Rays compared to the Yankees. This isn’t my favorite game on the board today, but I’m going to take a shot with a small play on the Rays +190 money line.

Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline +190
