Orioles vs Rays Analysis

The Tampa Bay Rays begin a three game weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night from Camden Yards.

The Orioles were able to salvage the last game of a four game series against the New York Yankees yesterday afternoon. The Rays won the rubber match of their three game set 6-1 over the Detroit Tigers.

The young lefty Jalen Beeks takes the mound for Tampa Bay. He will be opposed by Orioles right-handed pitching Taylor Wells. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST

Santander Deposits Walk Off Blast

The Baltimore Orioles avoided a four game sweep and seven game losing streak with a 9-6 victory over the New York Yankees. Anthony Santander hit a game winning three run shot in bottom of the ninth after the Yankees had tied the score in the top of the inning.

He also hit two doubles and ended the day 3 for 4. Starter Bruce Zimmerman was tagged for five runs on seven hits in only five innings but was ultimately bailed out by the offense.

The Orioles still occupy last place in the American League East with a 15-24 record. Tyler Wells will toe the rubber for the O’s on Friday. On the season he is 1-3 with a 4.18 ERA across seven starts.

Wells faced the Rays back in April and only lasted 1.2 innings while allowing four runs on three hits and two walks.

Rays Ride Yankees Wave

The Tampa Bay Rays have won their last two series over Toronto and Detroit to improve to 23-15 on the season. They have played well consistently and now sit at 2nd place in the American League East only five games behind the New York Yankees.

They seem like they are just waiting to take advantage of a Yankee misstep. Yesterday afternoon the Rays won 6-1 in convincing fashion.

Isaac Paredes hit his first and second home run of the season with solo blasts in the 3rd and 8th inning. Starter Drew Rasmussen tossed five shutout innings while allowing four hits while striking out seven. The bullpen did their job limiting the Tigers to only one run in the last four innings.

Jalen Beeks will get his first start of the season after nine relief appearances. The young southpaw is 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA while striking out 17 and walking four in 15.2 innings of work. This will ultimately be a bullpen game for the Tampa Bay as Beeks simply cannot be fully stretched out.

Orioles vs Rays Prediction

The Tampa Bay Rays are road favorites with the money line set at -145, with the Baltimore Orioles set at +125 and a total of 8.

These teams are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum and the Rays are in a groove. They have already beat up on Wells once and should be able to repeat that effort.

It’s also basically a bullpen game for the Rays which is right in their wheelhouse. It’s a little juicy but -145 seems like a fair price to have the far superior team and avoid the run line.

Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline -145
