Pitcher Prop Prediction 1: Carlos Carrasco Under 15.5 Recorded Outs (-145)
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco is in the midst of brutal 2023 campaign with a 3-6 record, 6.42 ERA and only 57 strikeouts across 81.1 innings of work.
He has struggled with longevity, falling short of recording 16+ outs in 4 of 17 starts for a 76% success rate to the under.
This includes an outing against tonight’s opponent the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 11th where Carrasco allowed two runs on 6 hits across 4.2 innings of work.
Carrasco hasn’t enjoyed his time at Citi Field in 2023 with a 7.82 ERA and .299 OBA across 35.2 innings pitched. He has done an outstanding job limiting free passes, but the Pirates have hovered around the top-10 in walk percentage throughout the season.
The Mets bullpen is coming off a relatively light workload on Sunday night, so they won’t need to over-extend Carrasco. The implied odds are set at -325 based on Carrasco’s track record for falling short of this number and we get a manageable -145 line.
Pitcher Prop Prediction 2: Max Scherzer Over 18.5 Recorded Outs (+110)
Newly acquired Texas Rangers ace Max Scherzer has been lights out since joining the team with a 2-0 record, 2.77 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 13 innings of work.
On the season, Scherzer is 11-4 with a 3.88 ERA and 136 strikeouts across 120.2 innings of work. He has recorded 19+ outs in three of his last five starts including one of two starts since joining the Rangers.
He has yet to face the Los Angeles Angels this season but current Halos bat only 15-105 (.143) with one home run against him.
The Angels are also coming off a series against their division rival Houston Astros where they scored only eight runs across three games.
Rangers key relievers are coming off a heavy workload this weekend including Aroldis Chapman 38 pitches, Chris Stratton 28 pitches, Will Smith 22 pitches and Grant Anderson 46 pitches.
The Rangers are locked in a battle for the AL West crown that they currently lead by 2.5 games while the Angels seem to be fading into the background.
Scherzer will be a huge part of that, and they will lean on him heavily tonight to get the week off on the right foot. Take the over on 18.5 outs tonight at +110 odds.
