Pitcher Prop Prediction 1: Johan Oviedo Over 16.5 Recorded Outs (-120)
It’s been a mixed bag for Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Johan Oviedo who has a 6-12 record, 4.42 ERA and 121 strikeouts across 136.1 innings of work.
The 25-year-old had strung together three straight impressive outings prior to allowing 6 runs in only five innings in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds.
He has cleared 17+ recorded outs in 5 of his last 7 games and 14 of 24 games on the season for a 58% success rate. This includes an outing against the New York Mets on June 10th where he allowed only two runs on four hits across 6.1 innings of work.
Current Mets are now only 9-41 for a .220 batting average and no home runs. Oviedo will also have the advantage of pitching at well-known pitcher’s park at Citi Field.
The Pirated needed to utilize four different bullpen arms last night so they may need to lean on Oviedo even more than usual.
It’s a lost season for the Mets and if Oviedo gets out to a strong start, he should keep rolling into the 6th inning and clear this total.
Pitcher Prop Prediction 2: Reid Detmers Under 15.5 Recorded Outs (-135)
It’s been a forgettable season for Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers who has a 2-9 record, 5.27 ERA and 131 strikeouts across 107.2 innings pitched.
The 24-year-old has been absolutely shelled in two August outings with 14 earned runs on 16 hits including five home runs across only 6.1 innings of work resulting in a bloated 19.98 ERA.
Detmers has fallen short of 16+ outs in his last four starts and 12 of 21 starts on the season for a 57% success rate to the under.
He’s faced the Texas Rangers twice this season and recorded 12 outs on May 6th at home and 18 outs on June 14th on the road. Current Rangers are 25-98 (.255) against Detmers with four home runs.
Texas sluggers rake against left-handed pitching as they rank first in on-base percentage and 2nd in wRC+ on the season.
The Halos bullpen is in solid shape as they only needed to cover two innings last night after getting crushed 11-0 the night prior and not needing to utilize high-leverage relievers. A struggling pitcher against this lineup spells trouble and a short outing, take the under.
