Updated AL East Division Winner – Baltimore Orioles (+110)

The Baltimore Orioles may not have had the flashiest of deadlines, but they had one of the best days in the AL East in my opinion.

They picked up some pitching help, adding Jack Flaherty and Shintaro Fujinami. Yet it doesn’t end there, they also have the easiest remaining SOS in the division as well.

It looks like Boston and New York are all but out of the hunt for the division, if they can improve their run differential with these pitching improvement, they should be on a smooth path to the postseason.

They are a young team, but they aren’t competing with the teams in the AL East that have all the experience, Toronto and Tampa are relatively young as well, so you can take that out of the equation.

Updated American League Winner – Texas Rangers (+600)

In my rankings, based on immediate impact, I have Texas ranked 3rd in the league for their improvements during the deadline.

There isn’t much of a question that Texas has the offensive abilities to win, Texas is 22 runs AHEAD of the Braves for the most runs scored on the season. Despite that, they are second in run differential due to their 464 runs allowed (8th in AL).

They definitely went out and addressed those concerns … adding starters Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery, as well as Aroldis Chapman out of the bullpen.

The regular season winner of the AL West is my best to win the AL, and I think Texas has the better route to get there. Houston/Texas is a two-team race, but having home-field advantage will be huge whenever these two match-up in the playoffs.

Best Bet To Miss The Playoffs – San Francisco Giants (+155)

Currently holding the top wildcard spot in the National League, but the difficult schedule and the lack of improvements at the deadline is concerning.

AJ Pollock is really the only big-name player that was added at the deadline, and in terms of win %, the Giants play the 6th hardest remaining schedule.

From the outside, there is also A LOT of competition for the Giants, and that competition made improvements by way of the trade.

While I do NOT think San Francisco got worse at the deadline, I have Arizona, Philadelphia, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee and Miami all well ahead of them in those rankings.

Those teams all improved, and Miami is the ONLY one on that list that has a harder schedule to close out the year. There are only 4.5 games separating these SIX teams, and plenty of time for the other teams to make their move.
