Rays vs Blue Jays Analysis
The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays begin a three game series on Friday night from Rogers Centre. This will be the first head-to-head matchup of the season.
The Rays won 11 of 19 games between these clubs in 2021. The Blue Jays will start their ace Kevin Gausman, while the Drew Rasmussen gets the nod for Tampa Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST.
Jays Clipped by Yankees
After an amazing start to the season, the Toronto Blue Jays have hit a rough patch, losing four straight and 7 of their last 9 games. They were off on Thursday after losing 5-3 against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
The Yankees now lead the season series 6-3 after sweeping the two game mini set. Toronto has dropped to 3rd place in the American League East with a 17-15 record. The Blue Jays offense had not been as good as advertised as they rank 21st in runs scored.
The Jays will turn to Kevin Gausman to try and snap their four game skid. Gausman has been absolutely dominant with a 3-1 record, 2.13 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.
Amazing statistic of the day: Gausman has 46 strikeouts and only one walk giving him by far the best strikeout per walk ratio. No other pitcher has a strikeout to walk ratio better than 17.5.
Rays Salvage Last Game In L.A.
After winning six straight games the Rays ran into a three game losing streak which included being no-hit in a 12-0 loss to the Angels last Tuesday. On Wednesday, Tampa Bay bounced back with a 4-2 victory in 10 innings to avoid being swept against the Angels.
Tampa Bay now sits at 2nd place in the American League East with a 19-13 record they are 4.5 games behind the New York Yankees. The Rays rank below average in runs, with 3.8 runs per game they rank 20th.
Starter Drew Rasmussen will be called upon to start the series on the right foot. Rasmussen is 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. In three lifetime starts against Toronto he is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 0.75 WHIP.
Rays vs Blue Jays Prediction
The money line is set at -130 for the Toronto Blue Jays and +110 Tampa Bay Rays with a total set at 7. This is the first series of the season between these teams.
Toronto hasn’t faired well at the “Trop” recently but are more desperate for a victory tonight. Kevin Gausman has been one the leagues most elite starters. Gausman has pitched well enough to win in all six of his starts as the team is 5-1 in his starts.
The lone loss was a game where they failed to score a single run. I’m going to back Gausman and the Jays to snap their losing streak on a short money line on the road.
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -123
