Red Sox vs Astros Analysis

The Boston Red Sox host the Houston Astros in the rubber game of a three game series from Fenway Park on Wednesday night. The Astros crushed the Red Sox 13-4 last night after getting doubled up 6-3 on Monday night.

These two teams met in the American League Championship last season, but are now on opposite sides of the spectrum. Houston has an impressive 24-13 record as they battle the Los Angeles Angels for first place in the American League West.

Bostons record sits at 14-22 as they try to avoid the basement in American League East behind the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM EST/ 3:10 PM PST.

Red Sox Need a Win Streak

It seems like every time the Boston Red Sox show signs of life with a signature victory, an awful performance is just around the corner. They have yet to win three games in a row at any point this season.

However, they still have a chance to win back-to-back series for the first time this season on Wednesday night. Last night’s 13-4 loss was an absolute embarrassment for Nathan Eovaldi and the Red Sox.

Eovaldi only lasted 1.2 innings, while allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits and five homeruns. Yes five home runs..For a total of 14 on the season in less than 42 innings pitched. Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez each had three hits including a home run.

The Red Sox big three of Xander Bogaerts, Devers and Martinez have all been ripping the cover off the ball. But literally every other hitter in the lineup has severely underperformed, resulting in a ranking of 23rd in runs scored and 25th in OPS. Red Sox Nation turns to Nick Pivetta in the final game of this series.

His season has been a mixed bag, he’s had dominant starts and gotten lit up in others. Pivetta has been lights out in his last two starts, tossing 13 innings while allowing only one run and walking only one batter. It’s speaks volumes that he still has a bloated 5.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.

Astros Use Fenway As Launching Pad

The Houston Astros smashed the Red Sox on Tuesday night as Nathan Eovaldi could not make it out of the 2nd inning. The Sox ace became only the 3rd pitcher in the history of the game to allow five homeruns in one inning.

The Astros bats shined as Kyle Tucker hit two homeruns including a grand slam. Four other sluggers has blasts of their own. Jose Urquidy got the win after tossing five innings and allowing four earned runs on 12 hits. It wasn’t pretty but it didn’t need to be based on the Houston hitting display.

The Astros offense is taking off as they rank 12th in runs, 7th in OPS and 3rd in wRC+. The 25 year-old right hander Luis Garcia gets the nod for Houston on Wednesday night. He is off to an impressive start in 2022 with a 2.94 ERA and 27.5% strikeout rate across his six starts.

Red Sox vs Astros Prediction

The Houston Astros are road favorites with a -135 money line, with the Boston Red Sox at +115 and a total of 9. I’m on the fence with the total after last night. Both pitchers have been solid recently but both teams are also capable of putting up a crooked number at any point.

As bad as Boston looked yesterday it still only counted as one loss. I don’t have a strong feeling on this game and there are better plays on the board, but I will take a stab at a small play on the Red Sox at plus money.

Prediction: Boston Red Sox Moneyline +115
