Red Sox vs Twins Analysis

The Minnesota Twins get to enjoy Opening Day at Fenway Park in Boston with a matinee game against the Red Sox. The Red Sox ended their six game road trip in New York and Detroit with a .500 record.

The Twins are 2-4 after after getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in short two game set. Boston dominated Minnesota last season, going 5-2 in the seven head-to-head meetings. Today’s first pitch is scheduled for 2:10 EST.

Opening Day at Fenway

After starting the season 3-3 on the road, the Boston Red Sox play their first home game of the season. Last season the Red Sox had a tremendous advantage at home with a 49-32 record at Fenway Park.

This also marks the beginning of a grueling portion of the Sox schedule where they play 17 straight games without a day off.

The Sox won 9-7 in their last game in Detroit over the Tigers. Starter Nathan Eovaldi threw 5 innings of two run baseball with six strikeouts and four walks. Leadoff man Kike Hernandez went 2-5 with a home run, double & two RBI and Hansel Robles picked up his first save of the season.

Nick Pivetta will take the mound for Boston, after taking an L in his first start of the season against the New York Yankees.

He threw 5.2 innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out four. Pivetta did struggle in his lone start against the Minnesota Twins last season, allowing four runs on six hits in only four innings of work.

Twins First Road Trip

The Minnesota Twins record dropped to 2-4 after getting blanked 7-0 at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were only able to collect one hit and that didn’t come until the 8th inning.

The game made headlines as Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw was on pace for a perfect game and was pulled after the 7th inning with only 80 pitches thrown. Kershaw has thrown a no-hitter but never a perfect game.

Gary Sanchez spoiled the no-no with an 8th inning single after Max Kepler had been walked. Newly acquired starting pitcher Chris Paddack allowed three earned runs on six hits and no walks across only four innings.

Joe Ryan will make his second start of the season for the Twins on Friday night. Ryan threw four innings with four strikeouts while allowing two runs in his first start against the Seattle Mariners.

The Twins have only scored 20 combined runs in their first six games, but do have hitters that could turn the corner and get hot at any point.

Red Sox vs Twins Prediction

The money line for this game has the Boston Red Sox at -125 and the Minnesota Twins at +105. The total is set at 10 and may be one of the first double digit totals this season.

Byron Buxton has three home runs but the consistency isn’t there yet and Carlos Correa has gotten off to a slow start making runs hard to come by for Minnesota.

The Sox lineup is loaded and Rafael Devers is off to a phenomenal start. I figure the pitching to be a wash. I strongly considered over, but 11 runs is a lot to ask for before the really hot weather comes. You have to back the Sox in their home opener!

Prediction: Boston Red Sox -122 (money line)
