Royals vs Cardinals Analysis
The St. Louis Cardinals play the second game of a three game interleague series in Kansas City against the Royals on Tuesday night. Yesterday they played what looked like an old school National League game as the Cardinals won a 1-0 ball game.
The second batter of the day was Paul Goldschmidt, he hit a solo blast and that was that. Dakota Hudson gets the nod for the Cardinals to face Brad Keller for the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST.
Good as Goldy
The St. Louis Cardinals improved to 13-9 with their 1-0 victory over Kansas City yesterday. Paul Goldschmidt belted what proved to be the game winning homerun in the top of the first inning and that was the extent of the scoring from either team.
Steven Matz had his best outing of the season, pitching six shutout innings while striking out four and only allowing four hits and no walks. Giovanny Gallegos picked up his 5th save of the season.
The Cardinals now sit 1.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for 1st place in the National League Central. St. Louis sends Dakota Hudson to the mound to try and stifle the Royal bats yet again.
Hudson has been sharp in his last two starts, picking up two victories while not allowing a single run over the course of 12.2 innings. Hudson is now 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the season.
Royals Get Blanked
The Kansas City Royals endured a frustrating 1-0 loss yesterday, dropping their record to 7-14 on the season. Their current record lands them in 4th place in the American League Central. Zack Greinke tossed six innings with his fatal flaw being the solo blast from Goldschmidt in the 1st.
Still, Greinke suffered his 2nd loss of the season, dropping his record to 0-2. Carlos Santana was only Royal with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a double. Kansas City has now lost four straight as well as 9 of their last 11 games. Brad Keller will be tasked with being the stopper and he has recently proven to be up for the task.
Keller held the Chicago White Sox to one earned run on only three hits and no walks across seven innings. Keller has been spot on with little to no run support, resulting in a 0-2 record, 2.19 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.
Royals vs Cardinals Prediction
The money line is set at -115 for the St. Louis Cardinals and -105 for the Kansas City Royals with a total of 7.5. These teams have now played two head-to-head games and they have both been one run victories for the Cardinals.
The starting pitching is close to a draw, as Keller has pitched over his head and is due for some regression. The Cardinals lineup is boom or bust but the Royals hitting has been downright awful. They are dead last in the American League in runs, hits, OPS and total bases.
The Cards also have a tremendous bullpen advantage, they rank 6th with a 2.94 ERA while Kansas City ranks 29th with a 4.75 ERA. I strongly considered the under and it’s still the only direction I would look for the total. But this is an amazing price for a Cardinals team that has almost every edge and advantage in this contest.
Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals Moneyline (-112)
