Royals vs Twins Analysis

The Kansas City Royals look for a three game home sweep over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon from Kauffman Stadium.

The Twins fell to 4-8 on the season after losing another close ball game to Royals. The Royals edged them out with 2-0 win and have improved to 5-5 after winning their last three games.

We have a matchup between two starting pitchers on different legs of their careers. Royals starter Zack Greinke has been throwing consistent innings since 2004, while Twins starter Joe Ryan has seven starts under his belt and was seven years old when Greinke made his first start. It’s a getaway game for both teams, hence the 2:10 first pitch.

Royals Have Brooms On Stand By

The Kansas City Royals scratched and clawed their way to a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night over the Minnesota Twins.

The young south paw Daniel Lynch pitched surprisingly well with five shutout innings to earn himself the victory. Four different Kansas City relievers each threw a clean inning to combine for a nine inning shutout.

Adelberto Mondesi had an RBI and Whit Merrifield had a double and scored a run. As a team, the Royals are only hitting. 216 to start the year and rank bottom three in runs and OPS. Catcher Salvador Perez continues to crush the ball with four home runs so far this season after a league leading 48 last season.

Former Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke gets the nod tonight, he’s been sharp to start the season with only three earned runs allowed in 11 innings pitched in two starts.

Twins Hope To Avoid Triplet Of Losses

The Minnesota Twins have been close in both games against Kansas City but have taken losses regardless.

Newly acquired starting pitcher Chris Paddack held his own with five innings and only two runs allowed but also took the loss and fell to 0-2 on the season.

There isn’t really a player to point to as an offensive standout as no player has an RBI or multiple hits and five players each had a single. The Twins have been knocking the ball out of park at a high rate but have struggled to score runs so far.

They turn to young hurler Joe Ryan to stop the bleeding tonight. Ryan has been lights out thus far with only three earned runs allowed in 10 innings of work with 11 strikeouts.

The long ball has been a concern for Ryan and he has allowed two blasts in his first two starts. Ryan was the Twins Opening Day starter and will be asked to be the stopper this afternoon.

Royals vs Twins Prediction

The money line is set at -135 for the Minnesota Twins and +110 for the Kansas City Royals with a total of 7. Joe Ryan and Zack Greinke are off to rock solid starts to the season.

Neither team has been able to generate much for scoring with only nine combined runs in the first two games of the series. The total has gone under in four of the last six head-to-head games played in Kansas City.

I just don’t see an edge from a side perspective in this one. But I don’t see many runs being scored once again today, let’s take a shot on the under.

Prediction: Under 7.5 Total Runs Scored
