Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles Analysis

The Baltimore Orioles travel to T-Mobile Park to take on the Seattle Mariners in the second of a three game series.

The O’s took game one Monday night by a score of 9-2, and tonight right-hander Dean Kremer takes the bump against southpaw Robbie Ray. Seattle is a -160 home favorite and Baltimore is a +150 road dog, the total is 7.5.

Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview

Starter Dean Kremer has pitched pretty well in his four starts of the season. In four starts and 21.0 innings, he has a 1.71 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP with 14 strikeouts.

His career numbers aren’t that great, as he has a 5.69 ERA in 21 starts and 93.1 innings with a 1.51 WHIP and 83 strikeouts. It remains to be seen if he can maintain his current production, or he regresses to his career average of stats.

The Orioles’ hitting is fair-to-middlin’ as they’re in the bottom 1/3rd of baseball in OPS versus southpaws, and 24th overall with a .677 OPS and .230 batting average.

The real strength of this team is in the bullpen, as they have the 4th lowest ERA in MLB at 3.06 with a 1.20 WHIP. And the O’s staff ERA is 20th best at 4.06 with a 1.33 WHIP.

But the pitching has been much improved over the past week and a half, as they’ve given up four earned runs or less in 10 of their last 11 games.

Seattle Mariners Betting Preview

Robbie Ray is finally starting to pitch like the Cy Young award-winning hurler he was. In his last three starts he’s pitched 20.0 innings, given up a combined 10 hits and two earned runs with just four walks and zero home runs allowed.

Before this good run of games, Ray had given up a total of 13 long flies and 27 walks to opposing hitters. He may be another of the “late bloomer” pitchers that took a while to round into form because of the shortened spring training.

The M’s are the middle of the pack with hitting, as they’re 17th in overall OPS. and 19th in team batting average at .239.

Pitching has carried Seattle this year as they have a 8th lowest staff ERA of 3.74 and a 1.22 WHIP. The bullpen is about average with a 16th best ERA of 3.88 and a 1.14 WHIP.

Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Orioles are a hotter baseball team, having won eight of their last 11 games and their pitching staff has rounded into good mid-season form.

The Mariners offense has shown flashes of production at times, but hasn’t been that consistent. Although Robbie Ray is a better starting pitcher, Baltimore has a better bullpen and more recent pop at the plate. That’s why I’ll go with the Orioles on the moneyline.

Prediction: Baltimore Orioles Moneyline
