Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels Analysis
The Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays meet for the third of four games from Tropicana Field on Wednesday evening. The Rays prevailed 2-1 in the first game and again yesterday with a tremendous 11-1 victory.
The Angels have now lost four straight and seven of their last eight games. The Rays occupy one of the three Wild Card spots with a 2.5 game lead over the Baltimore Orioles.
The Cy Young candidate Shane McClanahan gets the nod for Tampa Bay, while the 30 year-old righty Mike Mayers toes the rubber for Los Angeles. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST/4:10 PST.
Angels Up For Grabs
The Los Angeles got absolutely dismantled last night by the score of 11-1. The southpaw Jose Saurez gave up three runs on eight hits across 5.1 innings. Every bullpen arm that after that was smacked around and the Rays had 11 runs when the dust settled.
Mike Trout had the only extra-base hit with a solo-blast in the 6th inning. The loss wasn’t the only news surrounding the Los Angeles Angels as owner Arte Moreno announced his plan to sell the team that once had so much promise.
The Angels have now lost four straight and seven of their last eight games resulting in pathetic 52-71 record. According to covers.com the Angels are the least profitable team from a side perspective this season. Mike Mayers will serve as more of an opener as this is his first start of the season.
He is 1-0 with a 5.22 ERA and 27 strikeouts across 29.1 innings of work. The Los Angeles bullpen should be heavily involved as they rank 17th with a 3.94 ERA.
Rays Shine In Playoff Push
The Tampa Bay Rays won their 9th game in 11 tries last night with commanding 11-1 victory. The veteran Corey Kluber took care of business as he scattered five hits across six innings while allowing only one earned run.
Three different relievers each tossed a scoreless inning to wrap things up. Randy Arozerena went 3 for 5 with a double & an RBI and Christian Betancourt hit his 8th home run of the season.
The Rays have been outstanding at home with a 39-23 record, they are the 7th ranked team when it comes to money line profit at home. Tampa Bay still ranks bottom ten in most offensive categories as they prefer utilizing their elite pitching.
Rays lefty Shane McClanahan has been as dominant as any starter in the league with an 11-5 record, 2.29 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He has been even more dominant at home, going 9-3 with 2.38 ERA.
Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction
The Tampa Bay Rays are heavily favored with a money line set at -265, while the Los Angeles Angels sit at +225 with a total of 7. The Angels can’t be trusted whatsoever. Not only have they lost seven of their last eight, they have only scored 17 runs in those eight games and that includes a seven run effort.
Meanwhile the Rays have won four straight and 9 of their last 11 games. Seven of those nine wins came by double digits. I considered Angels team total unders but those are at rock bottom. I usually don’t like to lay a run line with a weak lineup but with this is McClanahan against a bullpen game. Give me Tampa Bay on the run line.
Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 -120
