Tampa Bay Rays vs Milwaukee Brewers Analysis
The Milwaukee Brewers travel to Tampa Bay to begin a short two game interleague series against the Rays on Tuesday from Tropicana Field.
Both are likely playoff teams as the Brewers lead the National League Central and the Rays are tied for third in the American League East. The Rays are coming off an interleague sweep at home over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
While the Brewers won an interleague series of their own, taking two of three from the Toronto Blue Jays. Two right-handed pitchers go head-to-head as Shane Baz starts for Tampa Bay and Brandon Woodruff gets the nod for Milwaukee. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST/4:10 PST.
Brew Crew Leads The NL Central
The Milwaukee Brewers come into this contest with a 42-33 record and a half game lead over the St.Louis Cardinals in the National League Central. They won the rubber match 10-3 against the Toronto Blue Jays as they came out on top 2-1 in the series.
Rowdy Tellez got rowdy with his former team as he hit 2 two-run blasts. Tellez leads the team with a .248 batting average, 13 home runs and 45 RBI. Chi Chi Gonzalez tossed four innings of three run baseball and the bullpen did the rest.
The Brewers are middle of the pack in scoring and hit better for power than average. They rank only 24th in batting average but 3rd in home runs and 9th in slugging percentage.
The 29 year-old Brandon Woodruff return to the for Milwaukee on Tuesday. He is 5-3 on the season with a bloated 4.74 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He has suffered injuries to his fingers and ankle and will be making his first start since May 27th.
Rays Sweep Pirates
The Tampa Bay Rays handled their business in a three game sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend. They won 4-2 on Sunday afternoon behind another dominant outing from Shane McClanahan.
He hurled 7 innings and only allowed only one run on four hits while striking out ten. Isaac Paredes continued to swing a hot stick, going 3 for 3 with two doubles. He is now 10 for 15 with five homeruns and 9 RBI in his last four games.
The Tampa offense ranks poorly at 24th in scoring, 23rd in batting average and 25th in slugging percentage. The youngster Shane Baz will make his 4th start of the season. He has an 0-1 record, 4.15 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. He allowed a run in 4.2 innings of work against the New York Yankees.
Tampa Bay Rays vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
The Tampa Bay Rays are slightly favored with a -120 money line, while the Milwaukee Brewers sit at +100 with a total of only 7.
Both teams have followed a similar trajectory throughout the season and both have dynamic bullpens that will be utilized as neither starter projects to pitch very deep into this game.
What could be the difference is the Rays injury riddled lineup that may struggle with beating good teams right now. Now that Woodruff is healthy, he may get back into form and the pen will be at full strength after a day off.
This is going to be a close game regardless but I will be making a small play on the Brewers at even money.
Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline +100
