Tampa Bay Rays vs St. Louis Cardinals Analysis

The St. Louis travel to Tropicana Field to begin a three game interleague series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa Bay lost the rubber match of a three game series 6-5 at home against the Chicago White Sox.

St. Louis won three games of a rare five game series against the Chicago Cubs, winning the final game of the series 5-3 in the 11th inning. The Cardinals send the young righty Dakota Hudson to the hill, while the Rays counter with reliever turned starter Jeffrey Springs.

This should be competitive series between two playoff caliber teams with nearly identical records. First pitch is slated for 7:15 PM EST/4:15 PST.

Cardinals Eye Top Spot in Central

The St. Louis Cardinals enter this series on a two game winning streak after beating the Chicago Cubs 5-3 in the 11th inning on Sunday. It was vintage Adam Wainwright as he tossed seven innings of two run baseball while spreading out nine hits.

It was an anomaly that he didn’t strikeout a single batter. Paul Goldschmidt stayed hot as a pistol, going 2 for 5 with a run scored. The Cardinals offense is top five in runs scored with 4.82 per game with a .722 OPS that ranks 11th in the MLB.

St. Louis has won 7 of their last 10 games, upping their record to 32-23 in the process. The division leading Milwaukee Brewers have hit a rough patch and now the Cardinals find themselves a half game out of first place.

Dakota Hudson toes the rubber for the Cardinals on Tuesday night. The young hurler is 4-2 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He was spot on in his last start with seven innings of one run baseball.

Rays Fall Behind Jays

The Tampa Bay Rays have lost two straight games after dropping the rubber match 6-5 against the Chicago White Sox. Starter Ryan Yarbrough got hammered for 6 runs in only 1.2 innings pitched. Yandy Diaz went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Tampa Bay has dropped four of their last seven games, while falling behind the Toronto Blue Jays by a half game in the American League East standings.

The Rays average 4.13 runs a game while ranking 22nd with a .672 OPS. The young right-hander Jeffrey Springs gets the nod for Tampa on Tuesday night.

It’s been an impressive breakout campaign as Springs is 2-2 with a 1.88 and 40 strikeouts in 38.1 innings of work. He threw five innings of two run ball in his last start against the Texas Rangers.

Tampa Bay Rays vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

The Tampa Bay Rays are favored by -150 on the money line, while the St. Louis Cardinals sit at +130 with a total of 7.5. Pitching is probably a wash in this contest, however the Rays do have a bullpen advantage.

The Cardinals have a big edge in hitting, as they are 4th in scoring and 5th in batting average. They should be able to keep the pressure on a young pitcher like Springs.

The Rays have been inconsistent with the bats and tonight they will be without the services of their best hitter in Wander Franco. I’m taking a shot with the St. Louis Cardinals at plus money.

Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals Moneyline +135
