Texas Rangers vs Seattle Mariners Analysis

The Seattle Mariners play the Texas Rangers in Arlington in the second of a four game set. Thursday night the M’s were down early 5-1, but came back to get their 11th straight win 6-5.

Southpaw Robbie Ray takes the mound against right hander Matt Bush, first pitch is set for 8:05 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

Rodriguez Pushing For AL Rookie Of The Year

The Mariners are finally getting the ROI they expected from Robbie Ray. In 18 starts and 110 innings, he’s down to a 3.51 ERA, a solid 1.11 WHIP along with 123 strikeouts – that’s more than one per inning.

His last six starts he’s pitched at least 6.0 innings, and given up no more than one earned run. Pret-ty, pret-ty good as Larry David would say.

Seattle’s hitting is pretty similar to the Rangers with a 15th best OPS of .706 and a .235 team batting average. Power is slightly above average as they’ve hit 99 home runs this year, good for 13th in MLB. Rookie Julio Rodriguez has been a big catalyst for this team’s offense, and looks to be the favorite for AL Rookie of the Year.

And they’re playing with renewed momentum and purpose with a record of 48-42. If the playoffs were held today, the M’s would have the second wildcard spot.

Rangers Rolling With Bullpen Tonight

It looks like the Rangers will have a bullpen game instead of a traditional starting pitcher, and Matt Bush will be the opener. In 33 appearances this year he’s never gone past one inning of work.

As bad as Texas’ firemen have pitched this year – and especially the past few games – I’m not sure this is a great move, but we’ll see how it works out.

The Rangers are middle of the pack in OPS with a 16th best .702 and .240 team batting average. But where they excel on offense is by going deep, as they have 97 home runs this season, tied for 7th with the Twins.

Mid-Season Betting Tip

Here’s a betting tip that can increase your ROI in the second half of this MLB season. Take a look at the teams or totals you tend to bet most often, figure out your win (and and profit) rate, and examine the assumptions behind those bets.

Ask yourself: Are these assumptions still valid and true at the halfway point of this season? To paraphrase Ferris Bueller, things move pretty fast in Major League Baseball, and you need to stay current to give yourself the best chance to be successful.

So when you’re relaxing with the cold beverage of your choice, take a few minutes to do this simple task. It can result in more money in your accounts, and give you a better start to the pro and college football season. Enjoy your All-Star Break, take time to relax with family and friends and I’ll talk with you next week. Best of luck!

Texas Rangers vs Seattle Mariners Prediction

On Wall Street, we’ve been told that the trend is your friend. The Mariners’ 11-game winning streak is a trend I don’t want to step in front of, especially going against a Rangers team going to a bullpen game instead of a regular starter.

The Texas pen has been used (and abused by opposing hitters) quite a bit the last several games. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. That’s why I’ll take Seattle on the moneyline.

Prediction: Seattle Mariners Moneyline
